Ophelia suffered from the death of her father, and her rocky relationship with young Hamlet. She wants to continue to have a relationship with young Prince Hamlet but “doesn't realize the danger she's in” (4.7.173&174) even though she has been warned about young Hamlet. Ophelia was warned by her brother, Laertes, that young Prince Hamlet intentions are not what Ophelia thinks they are. Ophelia’s father, Polonius, forces her to stay away from young Prince Hamlet, which also causes poor Ophelia to go insane. Her brother, Laertes, and her father, Polonius, did not want Sweet Ophelia dealing with young Prince Hamlet. Although, Ophelia loves the young Prince, Ophelia cannot be with the young Prince. Ophelia was very sweet girl, but became so insane that she did not care about her precious life! She felt that since her father was now dead and the young Prince couldn’t be with her, she didn't have anything anymore worth living for. After Ophelia fell into the cold water she “made no effort to save herself,” (Delaney) she just let herself sink the very bottom of the stream. Ophelia was mentally and physically drained by a combination of both men she loved the most, and Ophelia had lost them both. Ophelia could not take losing her only father, and not being able to see her love, young Prince Hamlet. Ophelia father’s death had her mopping around the castle singing very sad old hymns, and her with relationship young Prince Hamlet made it even harder. As Ophelia was dealing with more and more despair, she became more and more insane. She became insane because she was “torn between …influential men in her life” (Antonio) and she didn't know how to handle all of that pressure builded up on her. She became very hopeless and depressed; she didn't care about life after she lost those two men. When she was drowning in the swamp “she sang bits of old hymns” (4.7.172) because she didn't want to live anymore. The death of sweet Ophelia was a very bad tragedy, but it wasn't an accidental death, it was a suicide
