Throughout the history of America, many presidents have been adequate, but only one is truly great. President George Washington was the first president of the US, and he is the standard of all US presidents. He was an incredibly brave and incredibly loyal to his country. He was also very adamant about America being a free and prosperous country. Lastly, he was a true visionary for the future of America. These qualities and his character demand his respect and placement as the best US president. In Washington's early life, he was a native Virginian and was a surveyor of the lands as a job in his teenage years (History, Washington) . This job is what gave him much of his bravery, as he would go alone and survey and draw maps in the wilderness. Shortly after, he was appointed the rank of Major in the Virginia Militia (Biography, Washington). This shows his bravery, and he soon led his troops to occupy a French fort. After the war, the congress reconvened and tried to make Washington a King (Boaz, The Man Who). Washington thought that America would return to the monarchy that Britain was, which is not what they wanted (Boaz, The Man Who). The title of president is a role that seeks approval from other government leaders, in order to make things happen. This role was important to Washington, as he wanted those in power to have checks and balances, as stated here, "He delegated authority wisely and consulted regularly with his cabinet listening to their advice before making a decision" (Biography, Washington). This integrity and willingness to give up power was vital in keeping America a democracy. If Washington accepted the power, America could possibly be a completely different country.
