In the book Julius Caesar at the funeral for Caesar, Antony and Brutus give different speeches about whether killing Caesar was right or wrong. Antony does a much better job of persuading the people of Rome than Brutus. He has much more to make the crowd turn with him. Antony persuaded the crowd more because he shows he is one of them, made them feel pity for Caesar, and proved that Caesar was not ambitious. Antony appealed to the crowd by calling them his friends. This made them feel like they could trust Antony in what he was about to say. "Friends, Romans, Countrymen, lend me your ears" (III.ii 71). This is the first line in Antony's speech where the crowd is alerted to listen. He had a much longer speech than Brutus so he made Brutus's speech forgettable. Brutus tries to make himself sound more believable by saying that he has honor so he should believe him. "Believe me for mine honor and have respect to mine honor that you may believe" (III.ii 14-15). "He was my friend, faithful and just to me" (III.ii 83). Antony was saying that Caesar was a good friend to him. Brutus and Caesar were best friends; that's why Antony says that it was Brutus's stab wound that hurt the most. "For when the noble Caesar saw him stab, ingratitude, more strong than traitors' arms, quite vanquished him. Then burst his mighty heart" (III.ii 178-180). Brutus broke Caesar's heart.
