Parents are important in the development of their children. They play an crucial role by imparting necessary values, attitudes, as well as behaviours that in turn influence their children‘s physical, emotional as well as social development. Fathers and mothers are uniquely different hence they usually have different parenting roles which when combined help children develop successfully. Due to this reason children need a father and a mother in order to develop successful skills to help them build successful good social relations , behave responsibly, acquire confidence skills to succeed at school and be stable emotionally , physically and psychologically .This essay will discuss how fathers are important in their children’s development. In a family a father usually plays a different role from that of a mother in parenting. In most of child development studies, so much emphasis is placed on attachment between child and mother, and the role fathers play has always been ignored (Fitzgerald and Montanez, 2001).They state that the reason behind ignoring the role of the father in literature has been due to the fact that it was evaluated by theories originally intended to study the role of the mother.
