“Don’t practice until you get it right. Practice until you can’t get it wrong” Julie Andrews. The sport of volleyball takes practice, and it also takes a major amount of team work (7). To play the play the game there needs need to be a knowledge of the rules, and how to play the positions correctly (5,7). The uniforms, rules, and positions have evolved greatly.
Volleyball has been played for many years by many people. The sport was invented in 1895 by William G. Morgan. To emphasize, the game is made up of the sports of basketball, baseball, tennis, and handball (6). The first game of volleyball was played at Springfield College on July 7th, 1896. There are 5 designated positions for a player to play. For instance, there is the position in the front left side of the court which is called outside, the position in the middle front is called the middle blocker, the position in the front right is called right side or opposite, the position in the middle back is called the libero, and the last position is called the setter. The team fills these spots with people that they think will be able to the fill that position. To emphasize, the outside and opposite need to be able to block, hit, tip, pass, dig, and down ball to the best of their abilities (6). These positions are put into place so that the team will be able to work together as one. Along with that, these positions are used for specific plays so that the team is not scrambling on deciding on where to place the ball. Therefore, positions are necessary for this sport so that the players can communicate. To know where and how the ball is being placed (5).
Volleyball has evolved greatly, in fact the uniforms, rules, and positions are an example of that. This sport is a fun way to exercise, and a good way to build a camaraderie within the team (7). To gain skills, self-discipline, and a sense of responsibility (5,6,7). There may not be much difference in the future for this sport, but it will get more interesting to watch and
