The practice of animal testing has been around for hundreds of years, but it was only in the 1800’s that it became widespread (Flecknell). With the widespread of the practice, this was the first time that people began to protest, thus stimulating the “first laws to protect animals” (Geut). Despite the objections to animal testing during the 1800’s and mid 1900’s, a majority of the population had their support for it. As of 1949, the public support for animal testing was more than 90 percent, but has been steadily declining since the 1950’s. As of 2013, public supported has decreased to 57 percent. (Ericson 1).
