Fatima Bader Professor Henry Eng1010 Spring 2014 UFOs: Are They Real? UFOs, what are they? Where do they come from? Just about everyone in the world has heard of people witnessing strange things in the sky, or stories about people being abducted by aliens. UFOs (Unidentified Flying Objects) are not a recent phenomenon; they have taken place in literature, films, television, and even in the bible, when prophet Ezekiel said that he saw a great cloud with flashing lights surrounded by a bright light, and the middle looked like a glowing metal. It’s become more common and intriguing to people as technology has advanced with photographs. To some people UFOs still sounds a lot like illogical non-sense. Some people think that as human beings we’re a lot smarter now than we used to be, yet we haven’t found anything out there. Historical records show that People had reported seeing unknown strange objects in the sky for over thousands of years, even dating back to 1500(BC). Thutmose Pharaoh of ancient Egypt witnessed, “A circle of fire coming in the sky it had no head the breath of its mouth had a foul odor. Its body was one rod long and one rod wide it had no voice” (Brookesmith, 13). What could it have been that he’d actually seen in the sky? I for sure believe that UFOs do exist and they are out there. Overwhelming evidences and major incidents proves that UFOs are real, not hoax. I believe we are being kept in the dark. When it comes to such matters, the truth is never told. I believe the Government is always trying cover up these matters. So many investigations about UFOs were closed and kept secretive, such as the incident in Roswell, NM 1947; which is considered as one of the most controversial UFO sightings ever. It starte... ... middle of paper ... ...The idea of UFOs coming from another planet to visit us has always been there from the beginning of time and new witnesses to these phenomenons continue. It doesn’t happen every day but when it does no one really hears about it. From my point of view I truly believe in the possibility of other forms of life not on earth throughout the solar system. Think about how big our universe is and when our sun is one star of a million stars and our galaxy is one of billions in the universe. It’s a big universe and there are many things out there that we don’t know about. According to Warner Von Braun, “It would be height of presumption to think that we are the only living thing in that enormous immensity”. I don’t believe we are the only form of life anywhere else. We don’t have any solid evidence to confirm nor deny these beliefs but maybe with time we will learn the truth.
Recently, many people believed to have witnessed via a viral video, U.F.O. unidentified flying object sighting directly above the Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem, Israel, yet solid research quickly disproved this occurrence as another contemporary hoax. Sightings such as this one date back to June 24th, 1947, when Kenneth Arnold reportedly saw a “flying saucer” (Dash). There are many people around the world, who believe wholeheartedly in unidentified flying objects. Moreover, when Mr. Arnold made his claim of seeing a U.F.O., there were many futile arguments between believers and non-believers. Nowadays however, thanks to modern technology, people can record the alleged sighting by means such as video and still pictures.
UFOs invoke hysteria in society and cause people to believe other worldly beings are among us. The Crucible, written by Arthur Miller, talks about the hysteria surrounding the Salem Witch Trials. These two topics are similar because in both cases society tends to have seen things; in this case witches and UFOs/aliens, meanwhile other people didn't witness it nor have it happen to them yet, if not ever. Also, in both cases, there is a huge split between people who believe that UFOs/witches are real and people who don't believe they exist thinking that they are myths and hoaxes. The difference of these two topics is the fact that during the Witch Trials people were killed for being accused a witch meanwhile the mass hysteria surrounding UFOs
Unidentified Flying Object (UFO) A flying or apparently flying object of an unknown nature, especially one suspected to have been sent by extraterrestrial beings 2. A flying saucer
Extraterrestrial life has been a major topic for quite some time now, but has really escalated in the past two centuries. The movie we watched in class was called Extraordinary: The Stan Romanek Story. This movie so closely resembles the recent spike in activity that it seems to be the perfect example. This particular case had close to 200 different cases of videos, pictures, phone calls, health reports, and other forms of documentation. In my personal opinion, I believe that these cases were part of a hoax. Don’t get me wrong, I guarantee that there is life out there in the universe besides just us, but in this case, I do not believe Stan Romanek’s pleadings in the film.
Finding life in our solar system could potentially answer the questions humanity has been asking for thousands of years. Sarah Seager, a professor at MIT, mentioned some of these thought provoking questions, “why are we here? Why does our universe exist? How did Earth form and evolve? How and why did life originate and populate our planet?” Answers to these questions could give humanity a deeper understanding of who we are and what our place in the universe is. Steven Dick believes that humanity has “… deep psychological yearnings for companionship, superior wisdom, or ‘an ineradicable desire to see the skies filled with life’.” Those opposed may argue that a biological universe will have little effect on humanity’s understanding of our place in the universe because a biological universe simply does not exist. One may argue that life is exceedingly complex and the odds of conditions being just right for the production and the sustainment of life are slim. Our civilization may have managed to beat the odds, but many its unlikely to for this to occur elsewhere in our solar system. The proof to back this argument is the N =1 equation. The only solid evidence we have proves that only one planet has beaten these insurmountable odds and produced life. While this argument makes logical sense, relying solely on evidence we have at the moment, takes our focus away from the
Around June 25th, 1947 a pilot, Ken Arnold had reported strange objects in the sky while flying near Mt. Rainer, Washington. He stated that they flew like "saucers being skipped over water." This was where the term "Flying Saucers" derived from. The Roswell UFO Incident all started on the evening of July 3, 1947, Dan Wilmot and his wife were sitting on their front porch when they saw the distinct shape of a saucer flying through the sky. A few days prior to this sighting, military radar in the area was tracking an Unidentified Flying Object for four days. On Independence Day the radar indicated that the object had gone down about 30-40 miles Northwest of Roswell. A few days after the actual sighting from the Wilmot's, W.W. Brazel, the Foreman of the J.B. Foster Ranch went to check on his sheep after some intense thunderstorms the night prior. He happened to discover a very large amount of debris of an unknown metallic substance scattered throughout the field. It was also stated that he stumbled across a shallow trench in the ground that stretched hundreds of feet. Brazel would gather some of this debris to show family and friends. A few days after he would contact sheriff Wilcox of Chaves County. Once Wilcox had the information he needed, he contacted the Roswell Army Air Force Base, where Major Jessie Marcel was briefed to look int...
...e period. Others, however, remains persistent that there are real UFO’s inside the gates of Area 51 and they are trying to prevent the public from finding out. No matter what opinion you have about the activities going on inside Area 51 it will most likely never be fully known.
We may never know what lays beyond our night sky. It may be nothing, or our Government may be hiding everything from us, perhaps our President is behind these cases as well. This is the mystery that will trouble us for generations, but using evidence such as the LA shooting back in World War II, It is easy to gleam that: Aliens, Do, Exist.
There are many conspiracies that people say have happened at the Roswell crash in the summer of 1947 in Roswell New Mexico. Nobody knows what really happened at the crash in Roswell New Mexico but, many people say that the thing that had crashed there was a UFO and or a flying saucer which mean there being aliens. Even after 50 years the people still do not know what happened and for everybody that doesn’t know were going to go deeper into what really happened. This incident had caused a lot of chaos with the Air force and the people.
What if UFOs are both a rare and a jealous phenomenon? What if there is a core of real UFO sightings that are sightings of intelligently controlled craft whose pilots try to avoid appearing before large groups of people whenever possible?
The Roswell incident is one of the most publicized and well-known accounts of a possible UFO crash in the world. Perhaps the greatest evidence that a UFO did indeed crash near Roswell, is the wide scale military cover up that took place after the crash. This along with numerous eyewitness accounts of the crash site, prove that what ever happened in the summer of 1947, was certainly not a normal occurrence.
The thought of government cover-ups have been long discussed. The government has always, in the past, tried to keep any sign of aliens, whether it be pictures from space, to crashes on earth, to a low or nonexistent level. Just recently has the government been harassed to the point where they actually gave us clues to alien existence. It has in some ways been believed that the government has worked in partnership with popular movie directors, to produce alien movies to ease the thought that we may not be alone. Such movies as ôThe Arrivalö and the ever popular ôIndependence Dayö are very good examples of well convincing alien movies. If this is true, they did a good job, because statistics state that 75% of people today believe that there is some kind of intelligent life forms besides ourselves in the universe. That is very convincing compared to the 20% whom believed 25 years ago. ô New opinions are always suspected, and usually opposed, without any other reason but because they are not already common.ö (MacGowan 261)
Undoubtedly, with over 10 000 cases, the sheer amount of reported UFO sightings and abductions is startling. In July 1947, an airborne object crashed on a ranch near Roswell, New Mexico. Rancher Mac Braezel examined the debris which appeared to be mostly metallic and plastic scraps. However, it was damaged beyond identification of its origin. He brought some of the material to his neighbours who attempted burning it, cutting it, and yet, it would not be damaged. They also tried bending it, too which it would dent momentarily before peculiarly molding back to its original form. Mac hurriedly contacted the local sheriff, who then, in disbelief, contacted two military officers to the debris field, also in dubiety, they brought some of the material they had found to the Roswell Army Air Base. Shortly thereafter, another local along with some students on an expedition, discovered a disk-shaped aircraft about two miles from the debris field, which had four small humanoid bodies scattered around its vicinity....
While this idea may seem straight out of a science fiction movie, some evidence suggests that an extraterrestrial origin of life may not be such impossible idea.
Another idea is that UFO's are not really from other planets at all, but created right here on Earth. Supposedly Germans, Americans and Soviets started the 'Projekt Saucer' in Germany towards the end of World War II. During the war Germans sent ships to the Antarctic with equipment and plans for a massive underground structure. It is said that at the end of the war scientists and engineers who had been working on Projekt Saucer in Germany ended up in this underground structure, where even more advanced saucers were created. In a manner of thinking this is by far the scariest theory should it be proved correct, for it brings up more questions than it gives answers. What would people on Earth want to create spaceships for? Why keep it such a secret if everything is harmless? Maybe, if this theory is proved correct, it is better not to know the answers.
