As the President of the Unites States, I plan to change many things about our country to help improve the well-being for each and every U.S. citizen. I plan to do such things by passing certain laws and help assembly awareness for topics that have a severe negative impact on our country. I believe that I can improve the wellbeing of our country. IMMIGRATION In our country, we are experiencing many immigrants coming to the United States, with over 1.3 million people just in this year. These people essentially come pursuing more economic opportunities or religious freedoms. Construction workers are roughly paid $1185.60 annually (www.skagitcounty.net). Blacksmiths are paid about $456.25 on average each year (www.osv.org). Also, manufacturers are paid around $708.10 every year. But, in 2016, the average American is paid much more and work less hours as well. Their common jobs consist of retail salesperson ($25,760 annually), waiter/waitress (paying $20,710 each year), and registered nurse ($44,343 every year) (www.ranker.com). I would change this situation by making a law cutting back the amount of hours a person is permitted to work, and create a minimum wage. HEALTH ISSUES The main issues in health that we experience today are poor hygiene and sanitation, poor nutrition, poor maternal and infant health, as well as diseases/injuries due to unsafe working conditions (www.cdc.gov). The problems that 2016 is dealing with consists of poor nutrition, tobacco/substance abuse, overweight/obesity, and mental health issues (https://urmc.rodester.edu). Both our time and 2016 face similar issues, with nutrition and injury. This figure can also be bolstered by the "commuter" immigrants, illegal immigrants which cross the border for a period of time to work in low-paying, labor intensive jobs. The United States of America, being a country founded by immigrants, is known all over the world as the land of great opportunities. People from all walks of life travelled across the globe, taking a chance to find a better life for them and their family. Over the years, the population of immigrants has grown immensely, resulting in the currently controversial issue of illegal immigration. Illegal immigrants are the people who have overstayed the time granted on their US, visa or those who have broken the federal law by crossing the border illegally. Immigrants leave their countries in search for a better life and improvement of their situation. There is no singular reason for immigration; motivations range from better economic prospects to political safety. As of late, the number of immigrants living in the United States is an estimated 11 million. Those who immigrate are expected to contribute to the United States culturally, politically, and economically. Yet, full assimilation becomes difficult to achieve when the immigrant is made into “the other” by the country of reception.
My recommendation for lower the amounts of mental health illness would be the stigma that is associated with mental illness, that those people are crazy and they are just trying to get attention and also create inexpensive ways to treat those with mental illness so that they can develop skills and medication to help them cope. I would lower the cost that it takes to help treat people with mental illness. According to a Huffington Post article, it showed that the United States spends an estimated $201 billion on mental health disorders (Flanagan). Hampton Mental Health Associates offer medication and therapy sessions that can help a person cope with their mental illness. My recommendation for the physical health illnesses that American suffer from would be to lower the price of healthier food options so that people have the option to choose better food options and increase the amount of free workout places. The nation itself was built on immigration, whether to escape persecution or war; however, the United States, as it progressed has had instances where immigrant groups have had issues assimilating into society whether due to the political wave running through the nation or from an economic depression. There are currently 11.7 million immigrants living in the U.S. The United States is now again being named the land of immigrants. The new century has been introduced to the illegal immigrant. They are desperate to get into the American culture and are forced to disobey the laws of government to assimilate themselves in America. People come over because they have family, jobs or want a better life. This may cause some problems for Americans. Immigration has been going on for a while now. When talking about it, it can have its ups and downs. In my opinion the main reason why people come to the United States is to have a better opportunity. A lot of countries now in days have a lot of issues including poverty, little job opportunities, and education. When talking about immigration it has a lot of push and pull factors. Push factors are circumstances that generally push people out of their native country. Pull factors are reasons or actions that attract people to another location.
Healthy People 2020 is a program for the promotion of health and the prevention of diseases, launched by the Department of Health and Human Services in December 2010. According to healthypeople.gov, this program has four overarching goals which are first to achieve healthy, longer lives free of preventable diseases, injuries, and premature deaths; to achieve health fairness, eliminate differences, and improve all groups’ health; also to produce social and physical environments that encourage good health; and last but not least to promote life’s quality, healthy development, and healthy behaviors through all life stages. This program has a vision of a community where people live long, healthy lives. Healthy People 2020 offers a comprehensive set of 10 years of nationwide goals and objectives that is meant to improve the health of the American population. Healthy People 2020 covers 42 topic areas with approximately 600 objectives, which include 1,200 measures. A smaller set of Healthy People 2020 objectives, has been designated to communicate high-priority health issues and actions that can be taken to address them, this objectives are called Leading Health Indicators. The program goes above and beyond these health indicators in order to provide the best care for the people of this country. These indictors cover from the access of health service, nutrition, physical activity, and obesity to substance abuse, environmental quality, injury and violence.
Who is an immigrant? An immigrant is a person who has a citizenship in one country but enters another country to set up as a permanent resident. Sometimes countries are suffering greatly from lack of leadership, internal strife or war, and a collapsed economy. This is the case in Somalia, as well as in Syria, Libya, and Yemen. Syrian people are moving to Europe in order to find a peaceful home. Mexican immigrants come to the US looking for jobs. The people then move to new countries where they don’t speak the national language. In America, when the immigrants come, there are many difficulties: cultural differences regarding time and scheduling, transportation issues, and language difficulties.
There are numerous public health problems that can be addressed in my Southside of Chicago community. Among the several public health problems facing my Southside of Chicago community there are two that are more urgent. Health education or one might say lack thereof is a problem that needs to be addressed. My community is plagued with many of the residents suffering from high blood pressure, diabetes, and the killer virus known as HIV. In most cases these conditions can be prevented with healthier lifestyles and access to nutritious organic foods. In addition, environmental health is another urgent problem my community is facing. Access to clean, safe water and air is supposed to be a fundamental human right aimed at a healthy environment. Yet, my community consists a waste contaminated beach, numerous deteriorated building that are still occupied, and a countless number of restaurant and stores supplying our residents with services that are endangering their health.
Illegal Immigration can occur for various reasons but one of the main causes over years has been civil wars which made people cross borders of other countries.
