Managing Classroom Chaos: A Week's Reflection

Weekly Reflective Journal #5 The week was a chaotic and short week. Monday was a great day. My mentor was out for the first half of the day and I was in charge of the classroom. The students tried to push their limits but I explained that we are going to work. Tuesday was a crazy mess due to Valentine’s Day excitement. On Wednesday, it was much calmer and the first learning experience was implemented. The goals that were created last week are still in effect. Literacy has been a bit of a rollercoaster this past week. Monday the students enjoyed participating in the scholastic Let’s Find Out paper. I was even amazed by one student’s ingenuity. The paper had a maze on the back. The students had to help the baby musk ox travel to its mother at the bottom of the paper. One student drew a line down the side and said “done”. I asked him why he did it that way. He replied, “it was the fastest way to get the baby to its mom”. In mathematics, the students were engaged in the activities. At my table the students worked in partners with a fill two ten frames activity. The students enjoyed this activity and quickly filled up their ten frames. I felt like it was a rollercoaster if I am honest. My students knew so much about Presidents. I also felt that after teaching the first learning experience that I over-prepared for the first learning experience. The following learning experiences have been modified accordingly given this reflection. I tried fitting it all in with the first group. However, that is unreasonable. Time did not allow for all that I had planned. Therefore, I made accommodations so that the learning was not rushed. I also felt that my pre-assessment took time away from the lesson. So my literacy learning segment goal will be to pare down the activities to make it more reasonable and
