Our bodies are made up of 60% water(Mayo Clinic Staff, 2017). Since water is needed to keep our bodies healthy, we have to make sure we drink enough water everyday, so our bodies function properly. The function of water is to help get rid of waste through urination, perspiration, and bowel movements. Water is need to keep a persons body temperature normal, keep joints cushioned and hydrated. By staying hydrated, it helps protect sensitive tissues, and the spinal cord(Mayo Clinic Staff, 2017).

To stay hydrated, we need to drink at least eight 8-ounce glasses of water. When we are thirsty, we should drink to maintain our hydration. At times, the body needs even more water then the recommended amount. Water intake needs to be modified to take in more during pregnancy, breastfeeding, illness/fever, exercise, and hot climates (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2016).
