Some people believe that Martin Luther was a heretic for going against the Catholic church. Others will say he is a hero for the same reason. To many, he helped to open the way for other religions. Martin Luther was a hero who stood for what he believed in when others wouldn’t, by breaking from the church to spread his ideas. Although he did do things attacking the Catholic church, there would have been no other way to get his point across then when so many were outlawed or burned for having different ideas.

One reason Martin Luther is a hero is because of his 95 Theses. This was a list of 95 things Luther found wrong with the church. These were things like how the bishops and archbishops got their jobs due to who they were or how much money they had, not because of their religion. Parish Priests were uneducated and many couldn’t even read. Luther also pointed out how the church had become very money hungry by taxing people and selling indulgences. He nailed this list to the door of the church on October 31, 1517, the day before All Saints Day. Since this was such a big day for the church, many would say that Luther is a heretic for choosing this day to go against the church and nail his 95 Theses to the door. Through these essays, he showed the church for what they really had become, which was money hungry and more political than religious. Luther also pointed out the fact that high officials were able to hold more than one position. If they had that many responsibilities, they wouldn’t be doing their jobs as effectively as they should have been. If Martin Luther hadn’t been brave enough to publish and spread his ideas through these essays, many people wouldn’t have realized what was wrong with the church during that
