Did you know that there are 800 million players worldwide who play volleyball at least once a week every week. In 1895 William G. Morgan created the game volleyball for the people who could not keep up with the fast pace of other sports. Soon following, in 1900 the special ball was perfected for the sport, the volleyball. Since 1900 the game has had many changes and so has the ball itself. In this essay I will be telling you about some cool history, interesting facts about how volleyballs are made and some of the weird materials.

First, in mass production the bladder of the volleyball is made by pouring hot rubber into a mold which then molds the hot rubber into the shape of the ball. After this the balls go through a 24 hour inflation test to make sure that the ball holds air up to standards. After the inflation test they cover the bladders in multiple layers of thin nylon thread to help when being made so the rest of the materials that are put on don't slip around as much. Second, after the bladder is made and the nylon is put around it, they put a layer of rubber, a layer of soft composite micro soft leather material, and a surface layer of synthetic laminated rubber. They put all of these layers together on a machine that heat compresses them to make them stick together, except for the very last layer that goes on the outside. The last outside panels are glued on by hand and they are put into a special formation to their desired look.
