“Viva La Vida” by the band Coldplay can easily be related to Ralph’s situation as the end of The Lord of the Flies by William Golding. At the start of the novel Ralph is instantly chosen as chief over Jack. In fact the boys are so excited for him to be chief that they shout his name repeatedly. This chanting is similar to how the people in the song sang praises to their king in “Viva La Vida.” However, much like the king in “Viva La Vida,” Ralph’s kingdom eventually crumbles. Early on in the book the idea of a beast is brought up by a little kid, but soon more and more of the boys begin to fear and hunt it.
