The ethics and morals of using virtual reality with medicine have many faces. Ethics is defined as the way we should act towards others; also the justification of right and wrong, in this case a set rules or expectations that are set forth in the medical profession. Let’s look some ethical issues regarding virtual reality and medical treatments. The essence of virtual reality is that it can stimulate reality and it could new possibility.” The person that utilizes it such as a patient has illusion of “being” in the computer-generated environment while interacting with the virtual reality objects that are available to them.” (Botella, Garcia-Palacios,& Banos, 2009) One way that virtual reality can be use is for psychological purposes which can raise several ethical issues. When using this type treatment, the observer or doctor would have to really observe some effects of identifying the distinction between real and virtual worlds. According to Cherry (2014), virtual reality over the years has been used to deliver cognitive behavior therapy which is a type of psychotherapeutic treatment that helps patients understand the thoughts and feelings that influence certain types of behaviors. This type treatment is called cyber-therapy. CBT, for short, helps treat phobias, addiction, depression, and anxiety. As technology emerges, unanswered questions still remain. Many ethical issues would be the safety and effective research or treatments use during the early stages of virtual reality developments with thoughts of issues of society that may be affected by this evolution of this technology. In this case, is it right that our minds in some way manipulated to overcome some things we feared the most? Virtual reality is a technology that used in many ways and we will always have our opinions whether it’s good, bad, or indifference, it may be possibly that we would be lean more towards an indifference opinion as time goes on. Given today’s technology and societies different takes on use of new and emerging experiments or treatments, if we as the people see that it’s working for the good of people and enhances life then they are onboard, the morale is up.
