Integrating Virual Reality into Our Social System Virtual reality (VR) is the creation of a highly interactive computer based multimedia environment in which the user becomes a participant with the computer in what is known as a “synthetic environment.” Virtual reality uses computers to immerse one inside a three-dimensional program rather than simulate it in two-dimensions on a monitor (Lewis 14). Utilizing the concept of virtual reality, the computer engineer integrates video technology, high resolution image-processing, and sensor technology into the data processor so that a person can enter into and react with three-dimensional spaces generated by computer graphics. The goal computer engineers have is to create an artificial world that feels genuine and will respond to every movement one makes, just as the real world does. Virtual reality has two fundamental qualities. One is the idea of immersion of a human into a computer generated scene, and the other is the concept of navigation through this virtual world.
Thus, AR supplements reality instead of completely substituting it, by combining real and virtual interaction in real time which registers in 3-D. It enhances a user’s perception by portraying information about virtual objects that the user cannot directly observe with their own senses in the real world. The definition of virtual reality comes, naturally, from the definitions for both ‘virtual’ and ‘reality’. The definition of ‘virtual’ is near and reality is what we experience as human beings. So, the term ‘virtual reality’ basically means ‘near-reality’. This could, of course, mean anything but it usually refers to a specific type of reality emulation. Also, virtual reality is the term used to describe a three-dimensional, computer generated environment which a person can explore and interact with.
It allows the consumers to enter a simulated world or experience by gazing through a specially designed headset. In the reality, we are in right now, we understand it through the main senses we have. The main five senses we have are sight, smell, touch, hearing and taste. The senses allow humans to perceive the world as we know it. So, with virtual reality it involves our senses to understand the computer-generated environment and with that, we can explore that world in some form.
The glove is made of thin Lycra and is fitted with 15 sensors that monitor finger flexion, extension, hand position and orientation. Connected to a computer through fiber optic cables. sensor inputs enable the computer to generate an on screen image of the hand that follows the operator's hand movements. The glove also has miniature vibrators in the finger tips to provide feedback to the operator from grasped virtual objects. Therefore, driven by the proper software, the system allows the operator to interact by grabbing and moving a virtual object within a simulated room, while experiencing the "feel" of the object.

Virtual Reality as a Learning Environment Using a head-mounted audio-visual display, 6-D position sensors, and tactile interface devices, we can inhabit computer-generated environments. We can see, hear and touch virtual objects. We can create, modify and manipulate them in much the same way we do physical objects, but without those pesky real-world limitations. VR is not only virtual: we can meet real people in virtual worlds, we can tele-exist in real places all over the world and beyond, and we can superimpose virtual displays onto the physical world.

These examples are just some of the possibilities virtual reality will bring to our future. Introducing virtual reality into the future will prove to be a benefit for our society. Several important issues involving virtual reality have previously been discussed. Surgery and surgical training are extremely crucial processes in which virtual reality has shown to be beneficial. Astronaut training is another critical procedure.
