Monsters, death, and sex sounds like an average day for Odysseus. The Odyssey is a book written by a man named Homer. He writes about a man named Odysseus who tries to find his way home after The Battle of Troy. Meeting the Cyclops, Zeus killing, fighting suitors are all examples of what life was like in Ancient Greece. Homer writes about the role of violence in the Odyssey because he wants to show what life was like in Ancient Greece.

To begin after some travels Odysseus and his men find themselves on an island where cyclops live. The men aren’t welcomed very kindly. The cyclops traps the men in his cave and begins to eat them one by one. This shows that monsters were a problem to people who lived in Ancient Greece. After awhile of Odysseus watching men getting eaten he comes up with a great idea and he gets the cyclops drunk. But it’s not all happy endings. He finds his house full of men trying to marry his wife so they can have the throne. These men are called suitors and there's around one hundred. So Odysseus isn't too happy with this. Odysseus then gets all the suitors in one room and kill them all with his son. Then after all the suitors were killed he built gallows to hang the maids for sleeping with the suitors. This shows that it was very hard being a woman because the maids most likely were forced by the suitors to have sex with them. But Odysseus still killed them for being a disgrace to the house.

In conclusion, meeting the cyclops, Zeus killing, and killing suitors are all things what would happen in Ancient Greece. Homer showed what life was like in Ancient Greece through his writing about the role of violence. Odysseus travels were very interesting involving women, monster, and death. This just shows how violent Ancient Greece
