Many people argued violence in movies and video games does not related with violence in the real life. However, violence in media can affect violence in the real life because children and adult easily remember what they see rather what they hear. Furthermore, based on a research sited in Australian Government shows 59 percents violence are observe by children, otherwise, 41 percents violence are observe by adult (Richards, K 2011). Nowadays, movies contain a large amount of violence that people begin to argue whether it affects violence in real life. Many people argued violence in movies does not related in the real life. For example, according to Freedman, watching movies which contain violence scenes did not affect the viewers; however, violence happened because violence is a natural act when people feel threatened (Brown, M 1996 p.2). Furthermore, many argued that violence in movies can be solved by supervision from parents, by making sure the movies their children watched do not impact their behaviours. Nevertheless, based on 200 studies conducted by Mr. Comstock and Ms. Paik, it is shown that there is a relation between violence in movies and real life (Vasitis, K et al 2013, p. 2). Furthermore, Craig claimed that violence movie can impact to their violent aggression (Craig, A 2008). Thus, violence from the movies have a big impact to the children or adolescents, they usually applied their action because they thought it is a cool action or it became a weapon …show more content…
These days, not only does violence found in video games intended for adult, but also, in video games intended for children. Furthermore, almost 100% children and adolescent play video games and some video games in this era that content violence. For example ‘counter strike’ is a game intended for age 13 and older, but these days, children at age 8 years old already played it every single day. Video games have positive and negative impacts. Some of its positive impacts from playing video games are to learn sharing, consideration with others and finding ways to solve problems easily (Barclay, R 2014). Many people believe video games do not affect children and adult real life violence. Zawn Villines argued playing video games daily does not affect children aggression (Villines Z, 2015). Moreover, some people argued that by parents control in playing video games, their children will not practice violence in real life (Villines Z, 2015). However, video games actually do have more negative impacts to be considered because it affect violence in real life. According to Rachel Barclay, 90 percents children play video games and that every year the duration for playing games increases (Barclay, R 2014). Hence, the consequence of video games are several condition such as more aggression and become easily influenced by other people. For instance, Brad Busman claimed that playing video games can do violence
People have to suffer many difference social pressures so they need a way to relax the pressures. Watching violent films, images and playing violent games is a quick and easy way to relax their pressures; for this reason, there are more and more people like to see violent things from media, and as long as there is a demand for this violent information, the financial incentive for media companies will be there. In general, media violence can affects people in three different ways. The first one is leading people to solve their problem through violent means. People always can see many incidents of violence happening in media, and media always embellish the violent means to be a cool way to solve a problem. As time gone on, when they are put in bind in their social life, they will do the violence way to solve their problem. The second effect is imitation. Sometime people will copy the plots of what they like in media to make it happen. The third effect cause people having wrong perception of the world. Overmuch, media violence cause people believe violence is everywhere and lead them to do violent behaviors. Now, media is needful for people’s society; however, media is full of violence, many empirical studies have demonstrated that media violence indirectly instigates violent and aggressive behavior and aggressive thoughts. Media violence affects negative, and it cause many severe problem to people’s society.
Studies have been conducted to find if violent movies influence a person’s judgement and violent behavior. Psychologists have said that brutal imagery in films, games, and other media sow aggression in society by rendering viewers insensitive to acts of these type. The long term effects of exposure to these movies depicting murder, rape, robberies, and so on is pernicious. Another study concluded that the crime rate would actually decrease during the showings of these movies because for 2 hours during the movie any violence prone persons that wished to see the movie would be in the theater which meant they wouldn’t be on the streets committing crime. Dr. Michael Rich of Children's Hospital of Boston testified that the correlation between violent media and aggressive behavior is stronger than that of calcium intake and bone mass, lead ingestion and lower IQ, condom non-use and sexually acquired HIV, and environmental tobacco smoke and lung cancer, all associations that clinicians accept as fact, and on which pr...
Many People have put their attention directly on the influence violent video games have on the bad behavior of children. People believe videogames intensify aggression in children, while others say it can be a safe getaway for a child to express his aggression. Many opinions on this issue are stated still today, and they remain divided amongst the people who claim videogames to be a cause of aggression and those who claim otherwise. A child’s behavior can not be determined by violent video games, but instead is caused by a variety of environmental and domestic factors. It is easy to blame video games on violence, instead of looking at factors such as economic status, familial issues, and exposure to other entities such as television and media. This paper will bring forward the opinions of those who believe in no relationship between violent video games and bad behavior with one counter argument expressing the opinion of those who believe there is a relationship.
By far the largest concern of technology today is video games. There have been so many experiments and studies to try and figure out if video games have a negative or positive effect on our children. A growing body of research is linking violent video game play to aggressive cognitive, attitudes and behaviors (D.A. Gentile, 2004). Video games can obviously be dangerous for our children causing aggression, bad performances in school and obesity. Although we cant blame all of these problems on the use of video game...
Violence is everywhere on television, and media has become a part of our daily lives. It is difficult to avoid the exposure to violent media. The violent scenes harshly affected children’s innocent minds. Children imitate what they see in media. It should be a wake up call for everyone to realize that television shows and video games reinforce the development in aggressive behaviors. It provides negative thoughts to children, loss of reality, and prevents people from taking responsibly from their acts. Producers should be conscious of what their products have done to the society. Instead of violence, they should have a different (or a bit educational) themes as a representation for their games or
When television was first invented in 1929, it became a very big event in the United States and then in 1950, came the new hip thing we know today as video games it also became a great craze with the youth. These inventions have advanced so much since 1929 and 1950, while violence in the media has increased, causing more cases of aggression in children to become more present. In this paper, I will view two different positions on the issue of media violence and its affects on children. The first point of view is media violence causing aggression in children where most of these views come from parents and psychologists who believe the increase in violence in the media causes children to become more aggressive. The second point of view comes from
“Myriad studies show that television violence affect children by desensitizing children to the horror of violence, teaching them to accept violence as a solution to problems, teaching them to imitate the violence they see on the television and leading them to identify with characters seen on television (and thus imitate the characters they identify with) (Parenthood Web).” The amount of violence in television programming is obviously directly related to the amount of violence witnessed by children. The more of a role that television plays in the daily activities the more of a role violence will influence that child. In 1985 alone, 85% of all television programming contained violence, with 92.1% of cartoons aired containing violence. These cartoons generally contain one violent act every three minutes ...
Over many years of research, studies have found that the television violence has increased. Certain “role model” type characters initiate most of these violent behaviors. These are usually very aggressive incidents and they very often include humor. “The average American preschooler who watches mostly cartoons is exposed to over 500 high-risk portrayals of violence each year” (DeGaetano). Youth violence has been growing throughout the years. Some effects noticeable in children are mean behavior towards others, aggressive actions while playing with classmates and toys, and also fear.
...er factors have also shown to be influential in this cause and effect relationship between television violence and violent behaviour. Such factors as age, gender, parental influence and amount of viewing contribute to how influential television violence is on an individual’s behaviour. Findings are still however inconclusive in this debate, although a large proportion of the evidence does appear to strongly favour the hypothesis that viewing violence on television does have an effect on a viewer’s violent behaviour. As a Washington Post article states "the preponderance of evidence from more than 3000 research studies over 2 decades shows that the violence portrayed on television influences the attitudes and behaviour of children who watch it" (Oldenburg 1992 cited at http://maple.lemoyne.edu/~hevern/ericdig.html).
Many can debate that children are definitely affected by the movies, television shows, book and video games that the entertainment business throws at them. For too many people, violence is an ordinary way to be entertained. One can argue that, exposing children to violence can make them less sensitive to the pain and suffering of others, more fearful of them world around them, and more willing to act aggressively. The issue proposed, states that once a child is exposed to such things as the video game- “Doom”, violent books, hostile movies such as “Die Hard”, and hateful lyrics of Eminem, he or she seems to know nothing but violence itself. Even with the new laws about new rating systems, young children are still being sold such books, movies, and music. These laws are simply not strong enough. Many people believe that the entertainment industry should take responsibility, and to start censorships of things tha...
Different of these matters comprise of adultery, violence, casual sex, behaviors that lead to sex, drug abuse, and also drinking of the underage individuals. The conventional culture existence reveals both pervasive and superficial in video, films and television, and as well as dangerous cost for youngster audiences at times. Concerns about media violence have grown as television has acquired a global audience. While TV violence is not the only cause of aggressive or violent behavior, it is clearly a significant factor. Television can be a powerful influence in developing value systems and shaping behavior. Unfortunately, much of today's television programs include violent images! The impact of TV violence may be immediately evident in the child's behavior or may surface years later. Media is responsible for inciting violence.
Thus, Americans are constantly exposed to violence when they turn on television and movies that are filled with shooting or other violence. Dues to majority of exposure, we change our perspectives on violence itself. We need to understand that the exposure at such young age alter our values and norms. Children thinks violence is the normal thing. However, we need to prevent this from ongoing situations by taking control of the television in our households. When children or teenagers watch their favorite actors in TV shows or movies, actors use violence as solution. It changes symbolically. Still; children begin to accept it as a solution. Children need to realize that the consequences of violent acts do exist and they are real. Those possible solutions are to limit their hours
Video games have become one of the world’s largest hobbies. Many choose to love them and others have quiet of an obsession. Since the 70’s, video games have become popular in entertainment and a fixture of 21st century childhood. The theme and idea expressed in popular video games is commonly violence. Many studies have issued that the violence used as entertainment in video games causes younger children to be more aggressive and violent. Violent video games act as a form of violence, but do not cause the violence to occur. Moreover, violent video games cause young children to be associated with a higher visuospatial cognition (visual perception), effects the brain development, along with media violence influencing a child to act violent and have aggressive behavior.
Violence is a major part of today’s television shows and movies that are targeted towards our youth. Violence is increasing regularly in the television shows kids are watching: “ Fifty-seven percent of television programs contain psychologically harmful violence” (Kaufman 1). Through heavy television watching, children can encounter many violent shows that are not suited for them. This can affect a child in many ways. Author John Leo explains that “Children who are heavy viewers of television are more aggressive”(Leo 29). Children, especially young, are not ready to distinguish right from wrong. When their favorite action hero is beating up a bad guy, kids think that it is all right. At a young age a kid will envy a character on television and will have a preconceived idea that whatever the character does is acceptable. Children will also take what they see on television and try to use it in their everyday life. For example, “Children under the age of seven or eight are more likely to imitate the fighting moves they see on the screen than older kids” (“Television” 1). Kids could go along life thinking it is OK with fighting to solve problems. Violence on television can be harmful in more ways than one. On the one hand, kids will imitate what they watch, but kids are also very easily brainwashed. Children may get a false impression of what the world is really like. If all the children see is violence on television, then, of course, the children will be a little apprehensive about the world. All of the violence could also m...
