According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, health care is a term meaning the maintenance and improvement of physical and mental health, especially through the provision of medical services. The health care system used in the United States today is partially privatized health care, which means it consists of private and public providers. Currently in the United States, it is illegal to not have health care. Although it is illegal, thirty-three million people in the United States still do not have health care. “The health care system in the United States is vast and complex, making up nearly twenty percent of the economy and consisting of a variety of public and private payers and providers” (Amadeo). A student must go through numerous years of school with outstanding grades, have participated in multiple extracurricular clubs, volunteered with service projects, obtained experience in the field, gone to medical school, and completed residency before being able to pursue a career. A right to universal health care would increase the wait time for medical services, which means additional doctors will need to be hired to reduce the wait time and take care of all the patients. If the United States needs to hire additional doctors, the competitiveness in the medical field will decrease due to extra doctors needed. Some doctors may not be as qualified in the medical field as someone who was an outstanding student and met higher standards. The right to universal health care could also lower the income of doctors and nurses, which could cause a shortage in the medical field. With the private health care system, doctors are making a higher pay, which leads to greater people wanting to pursue a career in the medical field. The universal health care plan the government provides does not have the best quality. In every other field in the market, a person can pay a greater cost to receive better quality. For example, in the food industry a Ruth’s Chris steak is better quality than an Outback steak. If a person is in the mood for a better quality steak they will be compelled to pay a higher price and health care is the same way. Health care should be no different, people should need to pay more for the better
