Unemployment is the one constant throughout history. Despite all the changes that the world goes through it always seem to stick around. Unemployment is someone without a paid job but is available to work. Unemployment is affecting many things and people, including people living in poverty, using violence as a form of relief and someone’s mental health. In this paper, the unemployment rate in California will be identified and discussed. Focusing on African American and Hispanic minorities because these issues happen mostly in this population of people. The number of people unemployed in California has peaked in the last five years, therefore the government must create more jobs for the people in order to curtail violence, poverty and mental health of the population in California.

Bullock of The Society for The Psychological Study Of Social Issues state's unemployment is causing individual and family consequences. For example, causing depression from a spouse which can cause unhappy relationship causing a relationship to become destructive. It can also cause a parent mental health change towards their child causing parents to become more impatient than later causing their child to have a temper, irritability, and negativism in them. For what has been a very, very long time, our elected representatives have sought to achieve “full employment” as a national goal….but full employment has been suspect as a possible cause of inflation, and is therefore weakened by decisions of the Federal Reserve, in an attempt to retard inflation. One of the most life changing effects of unemployment is the loss of income. Especially if they are a single parent of if they have a large family to support. Having no money means eventually having no food, no clothes, no shelter, and no car. It also prevents one from doing many things and activities, even though their amount of leisure time has increased. One might not have money to go to the movies, play on sports’ teams, or do any other recreational things. Being unemployed for a long enough time leads to a lot of debt. Any money that has been saved ends up getting spent rather quickly with all of today’s living expenses.
