I agree that Tom Robinson is a mockingbird in the novel “To Kill a Mockingbird” as he had a good character, was totally innocent but was misunderstood by the rest of Maycomb for his skin colour, just like the description of the mockingbird as “innocent, misunderstood and victimized”. Firstly, Tom Robinson is a representation of a mockingbird as he was accused of raping Mayella Ewell, which he did not, in the novel. He was similar to the mockingbird in the sense that both were innocent. Tom Robinson was not guilty, he only tried to help Mayella Ewell out of kindness, saying that he actually “felt right sorry for her”, despite the fact that she was white. Tom was a man who never harmed a soul, and even risked his own safety to help Mayella, trying not to physically hurt her even when she seduced him, but rather fled as he did not want to harm her in any way. The evidences produced during the trial were more than sufficient to proof that Tom Robinson was not guilty for the rape, thus showing that he was innocent and clear of suspicion, but had to carry the blame of committing the rape. ...
