Goals and Expectations for This Year After telling people I am from Alaska, often times they are slightly surprised to see me freezing indoors. Well, this may come as a shock for those of you who do not know, but in Alaska we do not have air conditioning. That being said, my first and foremost goal of the year is: to get accustomed to constantly having environmentally hazardous refrigerant blown around in every room I go into. Alongwith that, I have plenty of things to get accustomed to: the outside air feeling like it has been in an armpit, living in a reception-killing house, and low-key feeling like a prisoner on school campus. And it is my goal this year, to adapt to these new conditions and be able to enjoy life comfortably here in Zama.
Every cold Alberta winter, or dry summer, makes me long for the East Coast. When I grow tired of the brown dirty hills of Alberta, I can close my eyes and picture being back in New Brunswick, bright green meadows and clear rivers. I miss how the fog creeps into your yard in the early mornings, the bittersweet smell of the sea that never could be washed out, I miss the feeling of home. As a child, my family and I would road trip, traveling East to the sea. I remember how the vastness of Alberta would change into the golden prairies of Saskatchewan, then shift into the forested hills of Ontario, and finally the calm rocky shores of New Brunswick. I remember the house we lived in, white paint peeling off the sides of the house, a Canadian and Arcadian flag flying on the porch (put there by my historian of a cousin), floral green wallpaper clashing with antique, mismatched furniture. That house has been in my family for generations, each of our stories have been told, beautiful new memories have been made there. I miss it so much. I miss the beach side bonfires, sparks drifting so far away they became stars, the rainy marketplace days, coming home and smelling like fish. The Alberta cold makes my heartache, I want to go home. My home is a comfortable old cabin, where I grew to not be scared of a
As the most of my peers, I have been asking myself a question, what is it really I want out of my life? This question has been bothering many people, and not only the college students who are trying to figure out the path which will lead them to the comfortable life. One might ask, what is that comfort that we all are striving for? Is it a state of mind or is it some unknown world that we are so eager to enter? Well, it varies from person to person, it depends on the life that the person has left behind when the decision to go to college was made. There are several aspects of our lives that could influence us and the future decisions that we'll make. The biggest part of our decision making is the way we were raised and the culture we have got used to. Many Americans believe that the success depends on the family background that you have. There are those who say that if the person was raised in a rich family, all opportunities are available to them and there is a high! chance that the person will live a comfortable life. The same people are saying that if the person was raised in a poor family there are too many obstacles to overcome and most of the time these barriers on the way are too hard to cross. On the other hand, there are those people who say that the America is the land of opportunities and any person could achieve his/her goals if they set their mind to it.
Winter break was awesome and much needed. It was so tempting to just give up and not return to Pace for my spring semester, but there was still a small part of me that wanted to make my lifelong dream of living in New York City work. I returned to school slightly more optimistic and miraculously acne-free. I was determined to make spring semester my bitch. Having a better attitude and practically perfect skin definitely helped turn my college experience around. I grew closer with two of the girls of my floor and we branched out and started having more fun. Things were getting a little better, but I still wasn’t completely sold on staying at Pace. I was desperately looking for something, anything, to make me stay. Which
Introduction: The Goal, written by Eliyahu M. Goldratt and Jeff Cox, is a management-oriented novel that illustrates the process of ongoing improvement. The novel revolves around several significant characters, including the main character, Alex Rogo, who is a manager in a manufacturing plant. Another prime character is Mr. Bill Peach, the vice president of the manufacturing plant. Lastly, the key character in the novel is the physicist, Jonah, who was a former professor of Mr. Alex Rogo. There were some other characters too, but these were the most fundamental ones.
The urge to deliver quality education to the citizens of a country cannot be ignored with the current world. Educations is now being termed as the solution to almost all problems but not limited to. It is through education that a good task force for the future is created. In addition, the life kills acquired through education through mingling with and meeting new students from diverse backgrounds are useful to the students in future life. This has necessitated the urge to have the governments set different education reforms for their country. This essay seeks to look into the various education reforms in the USA (Berry and Adamson).
Did you know that over Christmas break for Council Bluffs, Iowa they weather colder than Antarctica? It was below zero and in the negative numbers. On a few days it was negative five and negative two. It was very dangerous for people to be outside in the cold. Cars were acting up because of how cold it was and it was dangerous for people to be outside for longer than 30 minutes. My mom’s car always acts up when it’s cold outside her tire pressure drops. My brothers car was outside all night and my mom pulled it in the garage after my dad left and it didn’t want to start or go up the driveway. Walking in and out of places were very cold and it was dangerous for your skin to be showing in those weather conditions. So after me and my mom walked
This year's week of torment was heightened by an untimely cold spell; more than two thirds of our original class had already quit. Running on soft sand beaches while wearing combat boots, getting a facemask full of salt water while lugging twin steel scuba tanks on your back, being soaking wet and covered with sand... these are enough to make most people question their desire to finish the program. But it was the cold that claimed the most victims. We shivered through the nights and well into the mornings, the chill of the air seeping into our very bones. Visions of hot meals and warm beds haunted us; we knew that ending the suffering and the cold was as easy as quitting the program. And quitting was so very east. Simply stand in front of your classmates and ring a silver ship's bell three times...
Over the past few years the United States has endured some abnormally chilling temperatures. Especially in the northern states, there have been record breaking low temperatures. Temperatures dropped so low that there were videos going viral of people throwing hot water into the air that immediately turned to snow as soon as it hit the cold air. People could also blow bubbles outside and they would instantly turn to balls of ice. There were hundreds of people left with power and some homeless people actually froze to death. People blamed the terrible winter storms on everything from global warming to the apocalypse, but the true reason was the polar vortex rearing its ugly head back to our hemisphere.
In this assignment, I will be trying to make an action plan for a change in local environment, and more specifically my home. Now I choose this particular place due to me being so familiarized with it, and looking at the criteria I believe my home could use some help, my home is in the city of Kitchener, Ontario. This city has a unique climate in my opinion as the weather changes between seasons, now many will say that it is normal but they have not seen the amount of change Kitchener goes through. Below I’ve put a graph that will help you better understand the climate change between months, Kitchener has a humid continental climate of the warm summer subtype; there are large seasonal differences, usually very warm and
In the past, some of my oldest memories in Manhattan are dealing with the weather. Up north they have four seasons; winter, spring, summer, and fall. One of the biggest differences between the north and south is the colder months. Personally, I don’t like the winter. Hence, why I now live in Miami. In the winter up north, the temperatures go down to freezing degrees. When there are blizzards you can’t do
The great artist Michelangelo once said, “The greater danger for most of us lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low, and achieving our mark.” Each year during the last week of December and the beginning of January, many people begin to set goals they plan to reach in the coming year. Following these goals, public gyms get swarmed with new members planning to become stronger in the following days. Some people will give up within the first week, others will make it a couple of months. Nonetheless, all of these people exerted an effort towards reaching their desired goals. I agree with Michaelangelo because many people are capable of more than they attempt, one may only achieve as much as he tries, and laziness takes root from neglected goals.
We had this project that our school was involved in called the IB project(International Baccalaureate). This was a year long project that had to be completed or there was a risk of not graduating if you choose to not do the project at all. So typical me had a hard time on finding out what I wanted to do for my IB project. This all changed when I decided to take a trip to my grandmother's house a few days later from the start of the project. I remember the environment when I showed up to my grandmother's house. There was a slight breeze, the sun was still out but it was cold enough to send goose bumps running up your sleeve. I typically enjoyed the weather like this however, this weather proved to be difficult to my grandmother. My grandmother has a hard time moving her elbow due to her age and a past injury she got when she was younger. So a typical day it's already tough for her as is, but when the temperature begins to drop, it becomes harder for her to move her elbow. Even though she has this injury that she deals with everyday she still is tough but every few days she has to go into town and go to her physical therapy appointment and work with the doctors there to try and gain more control and strength in her elbow . I always knew she did it but I didn’t know what it was exactly. So after doing some research on my own I developed a vast amount of
In my life time I have accomplished many extraordinary tasks that I’ve put my mind too. I discovered that my signature themes have greatly affected the methods that I use to complete these tasks. People use their strengths in everyday life as well as in crucial, life changing situations. Important self-building achievement is one factor that makes people who they are. Another is the way that people apply there strengths to different situations.
Growing up, goals change dramatically. A five-year olds goal is to get the coloring page done. As people go through school, goals obviously change. A freshman’s goal may be to learn the school so he or she doesn’t get lost. Senior’s goals grow to finding where they will spend the next four years or what kind of career they will grow upon. Then, of course goals continue to change as people get older and enter into different stages of life. In this essay, I am going to talk about how my goals in different aspects of my life and how they have transformed, what they are currently, and what they may turn into in the future.
It has been my craving in every aspect of life to do things differently, chart my own path and tread in to uncharted territory. Nine years back, this what made me join a course in bachelor of marine engineering at MERI, the only institute in India exclusively offering such a course. Idea of venturing in to high sees, braving the storms with only handful of resources and almost completely cut off from out side world made adrenaline pumping in to my veins. All this along with opportunity to get exposure to highly sophisticated systems on board ships, which was fodder for my technical bent of mind seemed perfect for my adventure seeking personality. Through out my career progression I have made such decisions like joining LNG shipping pool of my company and seeking extra professional qualification of eligibility to sail on diesel engine driven as well as turbine driven ships
