Antigone, a play that was written 2500 years ago, is still relevant today. It was a play about how a person who goes against the rules of society is treated. Antigone the protagonist of the play is left to die in a cave when she opposes the rule set forth by the king. Antigone, a play which has many themes that are still relevant today. Honor or self esteem is one such theme that goes on in the play. Kreon acts as the one who considers himself above all and makes a law that would not let anyone bury Polynices. He creates a law that is even above the law that is created by God. He is not willing to accept that he is wrong. And that ultimately leads to death of his own family. When everyone fears to against that law of Kreon, it was Antigone who fought for her rights. Everyone was aware that not burring Polynices was against their moral but no one dared to go against Kreon and die. Antigone, who was not afraid of Kreon decided to follow her moral and landed up in trouble. In today 's life when someone tries to follow their moral instincts and go against the society, they are generally cast out of the society. The society in which we are born has an existing perception about what is wrong and what is right. We who are born in this society have to work and think according to its notion, and when we try to do something different which goes against the rules society has set forth, we are either silenced or cast …show more content…

People are not sure what side they want to take. They lack decision making power. We see Ismene who is not able to decide whether she wants to help Antigone in burring their brother. At first she denies, but later agrees and is also willing to die along with Antigone. Secondly, we see that chorus who are agreeing and praising Antigone for her courageous act suddenly changes their opinion when Kreon enters. Even Kreon in the end lands up in same situation where he was informed that what he did was wrong and even gods are not with him, he initially didn 't believe that, but finally agreed. But due to his late realization he lost his family. In today 's world, this lack of decision making leads to loss of good opportunities. What we are as individual depends solely upon our decisions. So it becomes very important to be clear in life to avoid getting in difficult situations. This is how a 2500- year- old play Antigone is still relevant
