Are you passionate about pets? Maybe you should think about becoming a veterinarian. The job outlook for this field is good. According to the Occupational Outlook Handbook, employment of veterinarians is expected to grow faster than the average for all occupations through the year 2012.(pg.121) Veterinary practices are your average everyday local animal hospital, dealing only with domestic animals unless the hospital specializes on a specific type of animal. Rural veterinarians deal with the larger animals such as livestock and any average farm animal such as cows, pigs, goats. Zoo veterinarians deal with the more exotic and or foreign animals like monkeys, flamingos, lions, tigers, giraffe, most of the animals in the zoo. (O.O.H.) To become a successful veterinarian, one must be willing to vaccinate animals against diseases, medicate illnesses and infections, and treat and dress wounds.

Veterinarian medicine is the branch of medicine that deals with the diseases of animals, trained or untrained. Veterinarians are trained to help prevent, diagnose and treat illnesses and manage other animal disorders, in large and domestic animals. Veterinarians perform surgery and prescribe and administer drugs. They also examine animals to detect and determine the nature of diseases or injuries. Veterinarians treat sick or injured animals against various diseases such as rabies and distemper; they collect body tissue, feces, blood, urine, or other body fluids, for examination and analysis. Vets have to operate diagnostic equipment such as radiographic and ultrasound equipment, and interpret the resulting images. This practice is called Veterinary medicine, or veterinary science. ...y hard to nurse and take care of a patient that dies; and euthanasia is difficult for everyone involved; staff, owner and animal. Another hard aspect of veterinary medicine is the stupidity and ignorance of some owners -- letting serious conditions go for days or weeks before coming in (they don't think things are serious or they just don't want to spend a lot of money "on a dog"), requesting euthanasia with no good medical reason.

So becoming a veterinarian my take some time but if this is the career you want to pursue then it will be worth it in the end. At the rate that this business is growing you are more than likely to find a job quickly after getting all the needed materials for the job. In order to become a very successful veterinarian, one must be willing to vaccinate animals against diseases, medicate illnesses and infections, and treat and dress wounds.
