“If you present your dog to a veterinarian with the instruction to put him to sleep, you would normally mean something very different than you would upon taking your wife or husband to an anesthesiologist with the same words.” – Raymond Moody. A veterinarian is a person who is trained to give medical care and treatment to animals: an animal doctor in other words. I want to be a vet because I love being around animals, people (minus the talking), and overall enjoy helping people. It is required that you have a doctoral or professional degree. Students usually spend four years altogether to get a job as a veterinarian. Basic science takes up the first two years out of the four needed. It usually depends on the college.
As for salary it depends on how many hours you work per week. On average people make $85,170 a year. Ten percent of vets (lowest) only make $51,530. Another ten percent (top) are able to make $144,100 a year. The average is $43 dollars an hour, and 73 if you live in the city.
There happen to be many advantages of being a vet. One of the three are you get to help the animals. This also leads to another advantage, the owners will be relieved to know their pets are healthy again, and or up to date on shots. The third and final reason is the money you can earn hourly, yearly, and bi-weekly.
As for disadvantages, there are a few. Like having to clean up their vomit. Another is that you have to do deal with the owners, it’s even worse when you’re socially awkward and shy (which sucks because I am).
