There are two major concepts that fall under social structures, first is status and the second is roles. “ Socials status is simply a position that a person occupies in a social structure” (McIntyre P 121). Roles are defined as “ the sum total of expectations about the behavior attached to a particular social status” (McIntyre P 123). My occupation status is an intern at Scarf’s Nursery and Landscaping. I am being put in different departments to do different tasks. I took on this internship in order to gain more hands on learning experience on how nursery’s and greenhouse are ran. In the future I want to own my own greenhouse or nursery. This is great experience and gives me hands on learning experience. I also hold a status as a working farm hand on my family farm. The need that family fill within my cultural context are a support system. They are always there for you no matter what you are going through. A family is there to love you and make you happy. The needs in mass media are a way of getting knowledge. Whether it is through news, social media accounts, or form person to person. The interrelationship between family and mass media is that they both determine the functionality of our lives. The other cultural choice that I chose to compare is education. Which is a minor institution but it also determines how we function and succeed in life. They all are intertwined. Mass media is becoming out of hand to a certain extent and is even coming between families an education. Having mass media it provided individuals a way of being falsely educated and to start drama between families.
