The Transfer and Flow of Energy in the Ecosystme and Its Benefit to Humans

846 Words2 Pages

The definition of energy is the capacity to do work, and it takes work to maintain the organism. (Mader and Windelspecht et al., 2010, p.4)
The principle of conservation of energy, is that the total amount of energy in a closed system remains always the same, none being lost or created in any chemical or physical process or in the conversion of one kind of energy into another, within that system. (Biology Online, 2005) Sun is the main source of energy in the biosphere, solar energy can be converted to many different forms of energy, likes chemical energy, kinetic energy, electrical energy, thermal energy and so on. The approach of energy transfer is called energy flow, which can make the total energy in biosphere keep equilibrium.
The purpose of this essay is to describe the transfer and flow of energy in the ecosystem and explain how benefit for human. In main body of this essay, divided to three parts, from ways of photosynthesis, cell respiration and electrical generation, to describe the transfer and flow of energy and explain why it is vital for human’s existence in advantages.
Plants and certain other organisms are able to capture solar energy and carry on photosynthesis, a process that transforms solar energy into the chemical energy of organic nutrient molecules. (Mader and Windelspecht et al., 2010, p.4)
When leaf cells photosynthesize, they use solar energy to form carbohydrate molecules from carbon dioxide gas and water. Carbohydrates have many long chemical chain and bond so that they can store energy as much as they can. Not all of the captured solar energy becomes carbohydrates; some of becomes heat. (Mader and Windelspecht et al., 2010, p.105) None of energy in the plant is destroyed, some of storing in carbohydrat...

...otection, renewable energy sources are becoming more and more popular between western countries. Renewable energies, such as solar energy, wind energy, hydraulic power are recycle and can replace nuclear energy and fossil fuels to transfer energy to satisfy the needs of electricity. Electricity can bring convenience and efficiency to our daily lives. The lights, transportations, technologies all rely on electrical generation so that the conversion of energy is definitely essential for modern lives.
In conclusion, the energy in our ecosystems can be transferred to various forms, but not be changed to the total amount of energy. Due to limitations of this essay cannot contain all of energy transference, it just only describes from photosynthesis, cellular respiration and electrical generation in these three ways. However, energy is vital for our existence in general.
