The Thomas Theorem presents the idea which essentially refutes the hypothesis that race hierarchy was shored up by scientific factor rather than the subjective recognition of people. Through out the history of western society, People are more or less interested in finding traits of different human groups from the beginning of the Darwin 's Evolution Theory to the contemporary genetics, which is trying to convincingly divide human into subordinate groups through the method of science. As the Thomas Theorem depicted, the illusion create by the race hierarchy eventually brings real consequences to the society. Omi and Winant (1986) stated that Racial categories often consolidate its meaning by the particular social relations and history context(p.19). Bonilla-Silva(2003) purported that the early colonizer from the Europe named the people in the land which they invaded as “negro” and “Indian” to distinguish them from the noble European (p.34) In the early stages of United State, the race introduced as the tool for the slaveholder and other white class to legitimized the practice of slavery and disenfranchised the natural rights of African Americans. Even the other white immigrants were considered as an individual race when they first migrate to the United State. Thus the meaning of race are constantly shifting within the change of social relation and political background. For example, in the article written by M.Lee, the 1900 census has only five race categories comparing to the 1990 census which has more than ten race option, which means the conception of race are continuously shifting(p.4). Beside the social relations, we also discern race through the preemptive notion of what each racial groups looks like. The African American are generally portrayed as the people who have thick lips and black skin. An Asian American usually have small eyes and feeble physique. As a student dedicated in Engineering discipline, the most effective method for learning is to understand the model first. Every USB ports omnipresently follow the uniform standard and mechanism, which helps people to repeatedly use them without learning for every time. The stereotype of race falls into the same function that facilities people away from the tedious process of finding the virtue and vice of each person. In this case, people attribute numbers of idiosyncrasy to a certain group, which may has detrimental influence to the individual who belongs to this racial group and create discrimination. In the contemporary society of the United State, White and Black are always the two extremes inside the racial hierarchy. The White has been lionized as the race which associates with all the virtues and other merits. The black in contrast represent as the embodiment of violence and poverty. An individual inside black group will threat by these stereotype attached with her racial group, which may directly stultify her performance. For example, J. Spencer, M. Steele and M. Quinn (1999) found that a group of men and women with equal abilities in math performed significantly difference after they receiving stereotype threats that male are generally better in math than female.
