In the play “Othello”, the characters goes through events that led them to develop an emotion, for example jealousy, betrayal, and shock that changes into anger. Throughout the play “Othello”, written by William Shakespeare, the characters, Iago, Othello, and Emilia each explore the theme anger, which the song “Rolling In the Deep”, sang by Adele demonstrates.

In the play Othello, Iago’s jealousy towards Othello transforms into anger, which is evidently seen in the song, Rolling In the Deep. Iago, who is lower in rank than Othello, despises him due to several reasons. At the beginning of the play, Othello assigns the lieutenant role to Cassio rather than Iago, who is Othello’s close friend. Iago believed that he was more qualified as a lieutenant, which led him to develop anger towards Othello. Also, Iago was convinced that his wife, Emilia has cheated on him with Othello, and believed that the only way to get back is to corrupt his life. This rage led him to plot an evil scheme to ruin Othello’s life as he says, “[…] put the Moor at least into a jealousy so strong that judgment cannot cure” (2. 1, 300). This shows how Iago wants to ruin Othello’s life by making him jealous and blind his judgement. His uncontrollable hate towards Othello can be reflected through the song Rolling In the Deep, “but I’ve heard one on you and I’m gonna make your head burn” (33). These lyrics show how Iago is trying to take advantage of Othello’s weaknesses, which is severe jealousy. From early on in the play, Iago’s aggravation was obvious although Othello was oblivious due to his anger towards Desdemona.

...e dark” (1). The fire that is building in Emilia’s heart is anger. Her anger is reaching a climax where she forces herself to be open about Iago’s lies. Desdemona’s death triggered Emilia to defend for herself and Desdemona as she stood up for herself, as it brought her out the dark. As Emilia’s anger escalates, she finally realizes who Iago truly is.

In conclusion, in Othello, the characters experience fury that leads them to act a certain way, which these actions reflect the song, Rolling In the Deep. Iago’s jealousy creates anger because of the qualitative difference. Othello is not aware of this fact since he is enraged by the thought of Desdemona cheating on him. After Desdemona’s death Emilia is furious as she discovers Iago’s mischievous lies to corrupt Othello’s life. These characters all undergo rage but due to different events that occurred to them.
