When someone shows fear or hatred of foreigners, or strangers, of their culture, is it called xenophobia. Xenophobia is the most obvious theme of District 9. In almost every science fiction film, aliens are usually in a role of power and superiority. In District 9, the prawns have moved elsewhere from townships and lived far from humans. The actions in the movie acknowledge that there are hate crimes against the prawns such as, torching their homes and shooting riots. The motion picture likewise demonstrates the citizens dividing the prawns from humans. By moving them to District 10, people trust that the violence will subside; however, this fails as the relocation stops people from going up against each other and taking care of their racial
Intolerance, reluctant to welcome beliefs, views, or behavior that contrast from one's own. It has not been dissolved and may never be resolved. In the last several decades, we have seen our world look down on those who are different. It could be as little as they dress differently to a different ethnicity. We make assumptions that those who alter our views are the evildoers, and those are monsters. Monsters don't stay the same; they change as times do. When a new fear is created, the monster than shifts.

In this world we are constantly being categorized by our race and ethnicity, and for many people it’s hard to look beyond that. Even though in the past many stood up for equality and to stop racism and discrimination, it still occurs. In this nation of freedom and equality, there are still many people who believe that their race is superior to others. These beliefs are the ones that destroy our nation and affect the lives of many. The people affected are not limited by their age group, sex, social status, or by their education level. Their beliefs can cause them to attack other groups verbally or in silence and even reaching to the point of violence. All of this occurs because we can’t be seen as a “people”, but rather like “species” that need to be classified. An example of racism due to race and ethnicity as categories of identity is seen in the article written by Daphne Eviatar entitled “Report Finds Widespread Discrimination against Latino Immigrants in the South.” In this particular case white supremacy groups discriminate Hispanics that are both legal and illegal in the southern states of America, portraying several theoretical concepts.
Similar to the author of “Sonnet, With Bird” Sherman Alexie felt when he traveled to England. Mr.Alexie quoted “” I am the only Indian in this country right now. I’m the only Indian within a five-thousand-mile circle.””(pg.214) which shows how he feels like he doesn’t belong. This may be the case for people who have moved to a new part of the world that is unknown to them or to someone visiting another area that they do not know. As for the people who have lived in a certain area who see newcomers, may see them as outsiders because technically they are coming into a new place which would make them outsiders. Another example would be Dre Parker from the movie “the Karate Kid”(2010 version) how in a part of the movie he expresses how much he dislikes living in China and how he doesn’t belong there. Racism in The Color of Fear Let’s start with the definition of racism. Racism refers to the belief that race is the primary determinant of human capacities, that a certain race is inherently superior or inferior to others, and/or that individuals should be treated differently based on their ascribed race. There are two main issues in the movie, the “The Color of Fear” that I will discuss. These two issues include grouping people of color on the basis of the way one looks, and the attitudes of different races towards one another. Including also the idea that the white “do-gooder” feels that subconscious racism is being taken care of, when in all reality it isn’t.
Racism in Toyland is an article that disscusses the issues of racial and gender differences in toy stores. Even though there is supposed to be no more segrigation you can still see some today in stores and in other places. You can also still see some discrimination between genders by looking at what jobs that men and women have. In the article, Racism in Toyland Christine L. Williams sees that there is not only racism but also genderism in not only what jobs people have but also how customers and employees treat each other.
District 9 is a science fiction film produced by Peter Jackson (2009). The story is established through a mix of third person camera and documentary footage that takes place in present time. This is a twist of regular science fiction that typically takes place in the future. The film takes place in a “colony” of alien refugees (Prawns) are forced by humans to live in a South African slum. This is an example of social satire as it presents a critique to the injustice with which we treat those who are different from us. The nature of racism is shown by the metaphors of science fiction with the ideology and discourse to deal with those who are different than us whom we fear or despise. The low budget film has no flair no big budget special effects, casts no name actors and is generally considered an anti-Hollywood film. The story line is that of an extraterrestrial race that ultimately makes contact with Earth and the relationships between these aliens and humans within society.
This negative attitude and violence observed in this particular scene, is an example of Prejudice, known as a negative feeling and predisposition of behavior towards a group or any member belonging to that group (**). It is an issue that although it has always existed in humanity, it would be though to have dissipated in the 21st century. Taking in count that now in the in days we are better informed and educated to understand that one group's actions shouldn't be applied to stereotype the whole race.

Racism as a Common Problem in the 21st Century Racism has been a problem since the very first day that two men of different races met in the past. Racism is defined as belief in the superiority of one race over all others. Often racism is a belief that one type of person has better physical attributes, or is more. intelligent. Racism is everywhere; it is all around us and at most times it resides within us. Racism basically refers to the characterization of people (ethnicity based) with certain distinct traits. It is a tool with which people use to distinguish themselves between each other, where some use it to purposely inflict verbal, physical or mental attacks on others while some use it to simply distinguish or differentiate from one another. It all depends on the context in which it is used. The play Fences by August Wilson, takes place during the late 1950’s through to 1965, a period of time when the fights against segregation are barely blossoming results. The main protagonist, Troy Maxson is an African American who works in the sanitation department; he is also a responsible man whose thwarted dreams make him prone to believing in self-created illusions. Wilson's most apparent intention in the play ‘Fences’, is to show how racial segregation creates social and economic gaps between African Americans and whites. Racism play a very influential role in Troy’s but more importantly it has been the force behind his actions that has seen him make biased and judgmental decisions for himself and his family. Lessons from the play intend to shed light on how racism can affect the mental and physical lives of Troy Maxson and his family.

Intolerance: unwillingness to accept views, beliefs, behavior, or other physical differences from one’s self. Intolerance is an issue that has grown throughout history and effects every part of the world. Canada specifically has had a dark past when it comes to intolerance. Sydney J. Harris, a famous American journalist once said “Intolerance is the most socially acceptable form of egotism, for it permits us to assume superiority without personal boasting.” This is a very accurate description of intolerance in Canada because of the horrible conditions non-Canadians had to undergo. Canada has been intolerant to both immigrants and Aboriginals since 1914 and it continues to be an issue
