Education has always been a necessity as it has been a tool to survive the world and can also be a tool to oppress the student’s critical thinking and knowledge possession. As the teacher discourages the student to be self-thinking student and be allowed to use their creativity. The information is put into and you do not why you are learning this information. The teacher would make you a sponge for information but ignore other aspects of the student and teach where none of your aspects of your life matter in the class just the subject in the classroom. Freire says that, “Education is suffering from narration sickness” (Freire 71). That the narrative character is to focus on teaching the subject that it made the knowledge without context. My teacher was the narrator and as she focus more on the textbook it made the students not become critical thinkers. My English teacher made us memorize this piece of literature so we can use for our practice essays. This type of education we were getting did not fit the demographic of our school. My school was a very diverse school as our minority was Caucasians and learning this subject did not fit in with the demographic. Stevenson taught AP English for a long period at my school and taught us how to critically analyze a work of literature and create a view point of the themes involved in the work of literature to our society. We read George Orwell’s Nineteen-Eighty-Four and the assignment of reading this is to see the view point of a totalitarian society and with the NSA spying whistleblowing situation is our society becoming what George Orwell envisioned. This assignment made us think critically on our view of our government and if we are giving the government more control than we should. His style of education had context and agrees with what Freire said that, “In problem-posing education, people develop their power to perceive critically the way they exist in the world with which and in which they find themselves; they come to see the world not as a static reality, but as a reality in process, in transformation” (Freire 83). This assignment got the student to see their place in there society and if he feels he is giving to much permission to authority. The banking model of education does not promote critically thinking as there is no dialogue between the teacher and student as the teacher puts the education from the textbook higher than using the knowledge to create a critically thinker and allows him to apply this to him. As my sophomore English teacher lack connection with me and my classmates and focused more on what we should learn from the textbook. While
