Ridley Scott has brought back the amusement and excitement of sword-and-sandal genre through an epic drama in the Roman Colosseum. And what a striking story it is indeed. Gladiator is a drama/action film. When a Roman General is betrayed, and his family murdered by an emperor's corrupt son, he comes to Rome as a gladiator to seek revenge.Gladiator is a masterpiece of film with brilliant performances by its cast, and outstanding action scenes that keep you in suspense while giving you visceral thrills.It is full of historical themes, and critique of violence as amusement. Gladiators cast creates an atmosphere full of emotion, and drama. Russell Crowe does a fabulous job with this sword-and-sandal film, and makes you truly feel sympathy for him. He plays the character Maximus and reveals his honorable character as he fight to avenge his dead family. The very first scene was a masterpiece of what a battle in ancient Rome would look like. It is the battle where Maximus says the famous words “ What we do in life will echo in eternity.” This quote really makes you feel like you're worth something. Maximus used these words to strike courage into the heart of his men, and to make them feel that they are making a difference. Off of the casual battlefield and into the colosseum Maximus still takes charge, and prevails. Strength and honor was his words to his fellow gladiators, and they truly took it to heart. Everyone who truly knows Maximus would fight and die for him, and as we see later on in the movie we see his fellow gladiators fight and even some die for his escape.Some may ask as to why there is so much violence and gore, but in this time that is exactly how it
