The very first scene was a masterpiece of what a battle in ancient Rome would look like. It is the battle where Maximus says the famous words “ What we do in life will echo in eternity.” This quote really makes you feel like you're worth something. Maximus used these words to strike courage into the heart of his men, and to make them feel that they are making a difference. Off of the casual battlefield and into the colosseum Maximus still takes charge, and prevails. Strength and honor was his words to his fellow gladiators, and they truly took it to heart.
