People with disabilities and their needs have never entered my mind because I have not been around individuals who were going through these hardships. Having the lecture reveals the needs for everyone to be happy with themselves and be able to experience positive relationships with others around them is not exclusive to the population who does not experience any visual or mental disabilities. Reminding myself everyone in this world is unique and they have the right to feel an emotional connection, have sexual interaction and not be ostracized or stereotyped because of their disability. First, people with disabilities, like all people, have sexual rights. Perhaps society has turned a blind eye to the needs of a person with a disability and focus on the negative aspects such as how they are unable to hold a proper occupation, not able to move around freely, can’t support a family and assuming they are lazy. The interviewed individuals were able to describe how they were embarrassed about their disability and tried numerous ways to hide it, sometimes it harmed them because they would refuse to take the medication. I have learned in class how important intimate relationships are, and people with disabilities describe how a lack of it is cause them to feel lonely. Others interviewed revealed they were not going to let the disability hold them back, instead they were going to prove to themselves and others they can do anything. First impressions are important because it allows the someone to make a quick judgement about hygiene and lifestyle, however having a disability makes it the first thing being noticed and this affected the individuals by lowering their
