“We wont have a society if we destroy the environment.” - Margaret Mead.
Environmentalists try everything they can to protect the environment so we can survive on Earth. People think environmentalists aren’t helping the society, but the thing is they do! They try to save the trees and plants to find cures, keep oxygen clean, and keep the human society alive. Environmentalists find new species, and they want to keep the biodiversity of plants, trees, and animals everywhere. Environmentalists want to slow down the development of rainforests. In 2000, Environmentalists won a great victory against ranchers. Even though ranchers tried to pass a law to allow clearing of rainforests to get land, Environmentalists blocked the law. They have fought to keep the world healthy, and keep the biodiversity of the rainforests. The rainforests contain 750 types of trees, and 1500 types of flowers, including 125 species of mammals and almost 400 species of birds, the rainforest connects each and everyone of the listed species. Experts and studies show that due to deforestation, the world is losing more than 100 species of birds, insect, mammals, plants, and others. Also some of the species haven’t even been discovered yet. Brazil has lost more than 132,00 square kilometers of rainforests due to deforestation in 2000-2005, and since 1970, Brazil has lost more than 600,000 square kilometers of rainforest land. A question that has been asked a lot, How can we slow deforestation? Environmentalists have been trying to expand the protection area of rainforests, locating hotpots and by encouraging locals near the rainforests to help stop deforestation. The current rates of deforestation and degradation, 55 percent of the Amazon rainforest will be gone by 2030. Environmentalists have also tried to …show more content…

This had a major impact because it just saved millions of acres of rainforest land in Brazil itself, which has a major impact on the air and the healthiness of the civilians that live around it. Marina Silva, one of Brazil’s former environment minister, was a respected Amazon defender, and ran for president. She had won 19.4 percent of the votes. The concerns of Environmentalists aren’t just for cures and species, its to help the world become more healthy and have a better environment for future generations, and a better habitat for more than 1/10 of earth’s species. It also is 1.4 billion acres of dense forests, which is approximately half the number of rainforests in the world, this shows how deforestation has changed the number of rainforests, and the land over the years. Environmentalists also want to preserve rainforests, in Brazil, the government has passed a law called the “Forest Code”, which has saved 60 million acres of rainforest land, which is the largest reforestation in the world! Government in brazil say that if people abide the law, in 2020 the reforestation will be greater than the deforestation amount. This shows that people are trying to help
