Everyday, police officers across the United States are forced to make decisions while on duty, some are ethical and others are unethical. Police officers are under immense stress when in dangerous situations and have to use their discretion to the best of their ability. One of the most common unethical decisions police officers make is the use of excessive force. Unfortunately, police brutality has taken the lives of many people in our country. This violence that has occurred for so many years has caused an outrage among society (Bach, 2014). Recent police shootings have also caused retaliation, such as riots, protests, and killings of police officers (Bach, 2014). Police brutality has negatively transformed society’s perspective of the police because of the racial divide, racial profiling, and numerous senseless deaths committed by police officers. Police brutality is not a new issue in our country and has been occurring for many years (Bach, 2014). The use of excessive force is a problem that police departments have to take into their own hands to ensure officers

It has been found that blacks are more likely then whites to be pulled over by police officers as well as while walking on the street (Pollock, 2017). Whites have received fewer penalties when pulled over for a traffic stop (Pollock, 2017).
