In recent years mass shooting have spiked higher since before 2000. According to the F.B.I there is 16.4 mass shootings from 2007 to 2013, compared to 6.4 from 2000 to 2006. Gun control is a very controversial topic with evidence leaning toward both sides of the argument. Although gun control may seem necessary, it's not the answer. There are several problems and factors. One is the public. If one or a group doesn’t agree, they could take it into their own hands to do what they believe is right.
There are many examples in history that show the public has a lot more power than the government. Another problem is if gun control does pass, what unforeseen consequences could be brought up. Public outrage is very possible reaction. Not everyone agrees with what the government has to say, let alone something as controversial as gun control. It's a very possible scenario that not everyone will react the same way. Some could accept it and others could try and force the law to be reversed. There is an estimated 250 to 280 million guns in the United States, and there is no 100% successful way to gather and collect every gun in the US. Because if this if raises one major question, How will it be enforced? There is no way to accurately estimate the number of illegally obtained guns so there could be even more than previously thought. Even if every legal gun is somehow confiscated, there is still an unknown number of unregistered guns scattered throughout the U.S. But that's not even the only problem, there’s the Constitution. According to the Constitution it’s every citizens right to bear arms, which means you can own and possess a firearm. There's no way for the government to take away the right to have a gun. Unless the Constitution changes, which our whole government is based on, there should be no reason to
