The Scarlet letter is full of symbolic scenes that all tie to the basic nature of human beings. "In the dark night-time, he calls us to him, and holds thy hand and mine, as when we stood with him on the scaffold yonder! And in the deep forest, where only the old trees can hear, and the strip of sky see it, he talks with thee, sitting on a heap of moss!” That particular quote is said by Pearl but it ties Dimmesdale to the antics of nature. The book, “The House of the Scorpion” by Nancy Farmer is a 3 time award winner and a fantastic novel in the genre of utopia and dystopia. Matt is a clone saved from the burden of having a blunted intelligence. Evidence from the book supports this was a faulty move. The novel also says why El Patron blunts their intelligence; it's fully out of greed. Overwhelmingly, it seems that these things played a big part in the outcome of the novel, and why Matt is such a interesting, dimensional character in the book.
What would happen to the world when the Government and the drug producers create a partnership that benefits each side? This is reality in The House of the Scorpion, by Nancy Farmer. The drug producers are given land between Mexico and the United States, known as Aztlán, that is theirs to do whatever they want, without the interference of outside government, as long as they make sure no illegal immigrants come to the U.S. In the middle of all of this, there is Opium. This is the largest exported drug from Aztlán and the center of young Matt’s life.

The beginning of the poem lets the reader know that the old lady is upset about her current lifestyle and where she thinks it will lead her. She longs for the days when she was young and beautiful and everybody looked at her and wanted her. When the boy takes her groceries out to her car, she wanted him to see her in that way but she knows that her physical appearance has changed to the point where she no longer gets those same yearning looks anymore. I got the impression that she feels she is not fitting into this present decade and that she only knows best what happened in her prime years. When she was younger, people turned their heads and actually noticed her. But now she is angry about her lack of influence on the world. The line "as I look at my life, I am afraid only that it will change, as I am changing," means that she fears her life may get even more worse than it has already become. She spends her time alone contemplating all of this and trying to come to terms with the future. She is afraid of her aged face and hates what it has turned into. The youthfulness of her past has completely left her and now she is forced to deal with the present. I think it is apparent that she is afraid of dying because when she went to the funeral and saw her friend's face, she thought of herself lying there in the casket.
Within "A Poison Tree" the poet makes the accusation that if treating enemy as though they were a friend, there would be no anger to hold onto. "I was angry with my friend: I told my wrath, my wrath did end. I was angry with my foe: I told it not, my wrath did grow." (Poison 1-4) The central theme of this poem concludes with that the bearer of hate is only weakened and the foe is able to gain solace and comfort from the misfortune of the person they wronged.

In 1818, Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein was anonymously published. In the story, the title character brings to life a monstrous creature that reflects his own feelings of worthlessness and destruction. In Frankenstein, Victor Frankenstein compares himself to a blasted tree when he says, ‘But I am a blasted tree’ (Shelley 114-115). Ironically, this quote relates more to the life of the creature than Victor Frankenstein’s life. Mary Shelley uses the metaphor of a blasted tree to emphasize the destruction of not just Victor Frankenstein’s but also the creature’s ties to humanity, his self-worth, and his failure.

Other times he spent glorifying how beautiful his beloved one was and how the beauty can’t ever be taken away. It makes it difficult for the audience to take his reason serious at times because at one point in the poem he seems to have contradicted himself. I found out that this poem had a portion of metaphors, similes, and imagery and personification throughout the entire poem.
