The play, Oedipus the King, is a Greek tragedy by Sophocles, which takes place in the kingdom of Thebes. In the play “Oedipus the King”, Sophocles uses sarcasm in the form of Oedipus’ speech to the residents of Thebes, in his miserable and seemingly unavoidable fate, because the king accidently killed his own father and had incestuous relationship with his mother. All throughout the play, Oedipus the King, Sophocles shapes the entire story using dramatic irony. Fate and Fortune acted throughout with King Oedipus’s life again and again but could not avoid it from arising. However, when it comes to dramas, tragedy and mockery often go hand in hand; the same can be said of Oedipus the King, as Oedipus’ uncontrolled temper slowly digs a deeper hole for him, even while the irony continues to set around him and makes more tragic in the end. There were efforts to overcome what was written in his destiny as Jacosta and King Laius were planning to kill their child as he was born, but King Oedipus fled from his place Corinth to stop the bad deed from occurring. Basically, this play is about who Oedipus parents are and what kind of man he is. The audience receives the truth in Oedipus’ words and wait in long suspense for him to finally realize the truth himself, yet just when the audience thinks that he will, insight continues to evade him. Although, Sophocles uses many different acts throughout the play that depicts dramatic irony. The most important are Oedipus’s curse towards himself and his incestuous relationship with his mother.
The first effort was to stop what was in destiny by Jocasta and King laius. After their marriage, King Laius of Thebes and his wife Jocasta were cautioned by the Delphic Oracle that they would have a son that ...

In conclusion, this is also called as a “perfect tragedy” because of the dramatic irony and tragedies happening, which is transcribed in your destiny. Audience witnessed the tragedies of destiny that how King Oedipus was trapped throughout his life. Everything that was said by the prophet went on to happen in Oedipus life. However, even after numerous efforts to stop all the bad deeds from happening, they could not prevent it at all. After, committing such bad actions like killing your own father and sleeping with your mother, it was mandatory that King Oedipus had to go through the evil things he had done, even though it was unplanned but that caused him banishing out from Thebes. Moral of the story is that you cannot change what is written in your fate and no matter what it will happen in the end.
