The Renaissance was a period of enlightenment in Europe that lasted from 1350 to 1648. During this time Europe went through a period of awakening, meaning that everyone was eager to learn more about life, the universe, arts, humanities, science, and more. During this period there were many advancements in society, technology, and education. The progress that occurred during this time solidified the foundation for modern Europe. In the late middle ages, Europe went through a time of crisis. In 1348 England was hit by the Plague. This caused many problems like a decline in 30-50% of its entire population, and a decreased demand for goods but a high supply. The population was so low that it caused many economic problems. There were developments in the art including the fact the perspective was finally studied along with light and shadow, and art focused on human anatomy. People wanted to highlight the beauty of the natural world. Everyone wanted to push the normal boundaries and see what was achievable. There were also major developments in science that we still study today. Galileo and Copernicus had developed an understanding that the Earth revolves around the Sun. This was a big discovery for science as no one had ever considered this theory before. Considering that this was a period of discovery, people wanted to read texts and study them and learn more about certain topics, but there was no organizing printing. Composers focused on adding humanist traits to their music and created music that the main goal was to touch people emotionally. Many people also worked on developing literature. For example, Shakespeare focused on the classic ideals of tragedy and comedy and wrote many poems and plays that people enjoyed and still continue to enjoy and study in today's time.
