The Philippines is a tropical country consisting of islands, with amazing landscapes, coral waters, and tropical forests. It’s home to the emerald rice fields, smoldering volcanoes, fuzzy water buffalos, and happy-go-lucky people. The tropical country consists of 7,107 islands. It has a population of 99 million people, which is the 7th most populated country in Asia, and the 12th most populated country in the world. The country withholds two official languages, Filipino, and English, along with 19 other regional languages.

The Philippines is located in South East Asia, in the Western part of the Pacific Ocean, and surrounded by The Sulu Sea, South China Sea, and the Philippine Sea. Among the 7,107 islands, it is broken down into three main geographical divisions, Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. Manila is the capital, although Quezon City is the most populated. Unfortunately, the Philippines lies on the Pacific Ring Of Fire, meaning the consequences result in earthquakes, and typhoons. With the country expanding over 115,831 square miles, the Philippines is the 64th largest country in the world. Their money currency is specified in Pesos, and their GDP- Gross Domestic Product, is $424.40 (USD), which has had a 6.6% growth, and their unemployment rates stands at 7.0%.
The Philippines today, is a unitary presidential constitutional republic withholding a President, Vice President, Senate President, House Speaker, and a Chief of Justice. Back in the fifteenth-century, the arrival of Ferdinand Magellan- a Spaniard was the first push of the Spanish-Filipino colonization. Twenty-three years of the continued colonization that the Spaniards tried to win over, Ruy Lopez de Legazpi named the archipelago Las Islas Filipinas (The islands...

...is still dealing with the problem of their double digit unemployment and poverty rates. There is also tension in the West Philippine Sea, with China. Today, there are sights of both countries having a more affresive territorial jostling, greater military mobilization, and a lower tolerance for a compromise, over an island in the South China Sea.

Besides all the chaotic Terrorism going on within the country, the Philippines is an amazing country who offers more than just good food, landscapes, Manny Pacquiao, and history sites. It is a country that has a versatile blend of their culture with everything they do. They continue to grow-not only as citizens, but also as a country. Today they are not a developed nation, but on an outlook by 2020 they will be able to surpass Thailand and hopefully be back to their title of the 2nd richest nation in Asia (1970’s).
