The short story “The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connell proves that life-endangering experiences can change a civilized person. To begin with, Rainsford is a civilized person that only hunts animals. When General Zaroff tells Rainsford about his idea of hunting humans, Rainsford replies, “Thank you, I’m a hunter, not a murderer.” Rainsford has a sense of humanity since Rainsford only wants to hunt animals, not humans.
