“The greatest revolution of our generation is the discovery that human beings, by changing the inner attitudes of their minds, can change the outer aspects of their lives” (William James).
The Mexican revolution was a long and bloody time in Mexico. The revolution lasted about 2 decades and although it is now over its impact still remains on the country of Mexico. About one million lives were lost during this time period, many leaders and presidents were murdered, and many innocent lives taken. The main idea of the Mexican revolution grew out of the belief that a few landowners could no longer control the old ways of Spanish colonial rule, instead land should belong to all the people who worked the land and extracted its wealth through their labor. The revolution began in 1910 when Francisco I. Madero challenged Porfirio Diaz, the president at the time. It ended in the 1930’s because the current president, Venustiano Carranza was killed. Although he was killed in 1920, there was still disorder until the 1930’s. The Mexican revolution made an impact on Mexico by ending the reign of President Diaz, creating a constitutional republic and it also caused much violence throughout the years. Many small and large groups led by revolutionaries were involved.

“The Mexican revolution was an outgrowth of the resentment that had built up during Diaz’s 34 year regime” (Overfelt, Robert). Porfirio Diaz was president at the time the Mexican revolution began. He had a rule of 34 years, from 1876- 1880 and from 1884- 1911. Although Diaz did modernize many aspects of Mexico, including creating train tracks, Diaz favored wealthy landowners and industrialists. His close circle of friends...

... many reforms toward peasants. He nationalized many important industries like land and petroleum and railroads. When another revolt almost started, the church opposed and said to give in to the new government. He created the feudal hacienda system. This made Mexico a mixed economy, combining socialism and capitalism. He left office in 1940.

The Mexican revolution had a large impact on Mexico. It was a very long and bloody battle that lasted about 2 decades. Over 900,000 people died during the revolution. The Mexican revolution created a constitutional republic in Mexico. The land was redistributed to the people after the revolution as well. Even though Mexico had to go through a very hard time to get what they wanted, the people ended up getting their recreated government and land. The PRI is still effective today to prevent any more revolutions.
