In this article the Magic, Science, and the Ethics of Technology by Benjamin J. Bruxvoort Lipscomb and W. Christopher Stewart discusses how in the Harry Potter world they abuse magic and in the real world we abuse the technology that we now have. They also discuss the ethical judgments that J.K. Rowling’s characters make and how the real people make towards applied science of technology.
In the Harry Potter world they have rules of who can use magic where, when, and what age. Anyone who using magic by a wizard or witch who is under the age seventeen outside of school will be expelled from Hogwarts. Harry does go through this experience when is being attack by a muggle. But in real world we don’t have age limit on who can use technology.

It lets children and young adults go into a fantasy world that involves around wizards, witches, and magic. This series gets children to start to read at a young age. I believe this series is deeply more because it can show what morally side path you want to go down life. This series of books show how the morally good people would act in a crisis and not in crisis. For example, Mrs. Weasley in books and movies series her character was the loving mother who loved everyone basically. But at the end of the books and movies, when she in a crisis situation with Bellatrix Lestrange, who is trying to kill her daughter. Mrs. Weasley puts down that friendly loving look and goes after Bellatrix. They battled until Bellatrix’s death. It was the first time we saw this character not in loving, happily mood. Her morals changed when she saw that her daughter was in danger. This series also teaches us how to break the rules. Even though breaking the rules is morally wrong, but in some cases breaking the rules is good for people. Its shows how even fictional characters are not perfect in a make-up world. But it does show heroic and virtuous character moments that don’t need a perfect character. This imagination by J.K. Rowling is truly impressive because she appeals to our heads and our hearts with her writing according to Philosopher Martha Nussbaum. She means that the way she wrote some of her characters and the scenes they are in they touches our self in different place like our head and hearts. This book also gives young children and adults to explore their imagination that could lead us to the next Harry Potter
I thoroughly enjoyed reading Harry Potter, and I plan on reading the rest of them. From what I have read in just the first book I am sure that I will enjoy all the rest. The author has a very creative way of writing that is easy enough to understand, but also involved so that the reader isn’t bored stiff. This is partially why I feel that it has had such great success. Another big reason for its success is because it can be read and enjoyed by all ages. If you are young, you can relate to the first years; if you are older you can think back and it brings out the child in you.
...emort and great moral of Dumbledore. The characters differ from one other but they are very different in some ways. Harry, Ron, and Hermione are brave and have great moral. Where Snape, Voldemort, and the other death eaters are evil. The motifs in this story help the book come together and give information to the readers.
Harry Potter changed the way of children’s literature in a big way. Before Harry Potter a lot children and young teens were not reading then it all changed. In 2004, in the midst of the Harry Potter phenomenon, sales of non-Potter kid lit were increasing by 2 percent a year (Romano). Before Harry Potter people thought kids didn’t have the attention span to read long books. But Harry Potter became a unstoppable force. The last four volumes of the series are all door stoppers that clock in at well over 700 pages each (Romano). And it became clear that
...d dive into our imaginations allowing us to have a pleasant break from our everyday routine. Literature is often our sanity in a busy, hectic life. How about a good thriller or mystery? These works are exciting because we find ourselves playing detective and involved in situations we normally wouldn’t be immersed in. A good romance novel will keep that helpless romantic hopeful and full of joy believing in a life of love and happiness. It is important to expose children to literature. Their minds are vessels filling with information and expanding with knowledge every day. It’s important they read about history to learn where they came from. No matter how young our old we can all benefit from literature and even become kinder, smarter and happier beings.
Before reading Harry Potter, I very rarely read for pleasure. I found reading boring, almost old fashioned. My frame of mind more readily paralleled Danny Divito in the movie Matlida, who says that “[t]here's nothing you can get from a book that you can't get from a television faster.” While my view of reading as a child could be summed up in that quote, everything changed when I was introduced to Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. I can remember to this day when my Dad began reading Harry Potter to me, and how I did not understand just how much this book would change me. Harry Potter and his world of wizardry became my own personal Shangri-La, my escape, my own world. Anytime I wanted, I could ascend to a world of fantasy and explore the depths of my own imagination in a way that I had never been capable of doing before. I became obsessed with the book, reading it before, during, and after sc...
...ave evolved about the subject matter of these books. The greatest controversy, though, centers on the series’ religious references, which have caused many parents to despise the “immoral” concepts of the stories and forbid their children from reading these books. Such people feel that Rowling promotes paganism through the magic performed by the characters, and promotes evil through various connections to Satan. Still, Harry Potter does not reflect the practices of Wicca and good always overpowers evil in the end; therefore, we should not be concerned with the effects of the series on children, or even adults. After all, readers have been enjoying stories containing magical references for centuries and humanity has not suffered because of it. Harry Potter is just another magical story and should be enjoyed, rather than judged because of its controversial references.
“J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter titles dominated the fiction hardcover and paperback bestsellers lists in 2000 at Barnes & Noble's superstores” (“Potter”). Harry Potter, being the focus of the novel, “represents a new soul force in the seeker who wants to go the Path of Alchemical Transformation resulting in total liberation” (Hans). The novel has many symbolic meanings, “Yet the popularity of the Harry Potter books actually has everything to do with our symbolizing tendency itself” (Siegel). JK Rowling uses many styles of writing, especially with
I started watching harry potter when I was about eight. Of course, there were only about three movies out. But I was so fascinated by the series because I absolutely loved magic and the action packed fight scenes. It wasn’t until I was in fifth grade until I started to read the series. My entire family loves the harry potter series. But I am the only one who likes to actually read the books. But they helped me through the time when my uncle passed away. I turned to those books to cheer me up. Because even if I saw the movies the books were so good I couldn’t help but love them. And of course the movies kept coming out and so did the books. So far I have read the Sorcerer's stone all the way to the order of the phoenix. Haven’t read any of the super new
One of the most read series in all literature is Harry Potter. The seven-book succession has sold over 400 million copies and has been translated into over sixty languages. What is it that makes this series so wildly famous? What is it about the boy who lived that makes frenzied readers flock to their local bookstore at midnight on the day of the release to buy the latest installment? How is a story set in a world that doesn’t exist about wizards, witches, magic, and mystical creatures so popular? The series has been able to earn its spot on the New York Times Bestseller list and has granted author J.K. Rowling multiple awards because it is relatable. It is not the setting or the events in the plot of the story that we relate to. We relate to what Harry, his friends, mentors, teachers, caretakers, and even enemies feel. Harry is in a lot of ways exactly like us. He represents some of the good characteristics that all of us have as well as the bad. The series as a whole, is about one thing that is stressed over and over again in the novels, love. The Harry Potter series is one of the most read sequences of novels because the central theme is love and self-sacrifice, and readers are looking for a novel that shows them just that.
One of the reasons I would recommend this book, is its ability to immerse the reader in its fictional world, making them feel hatred toward some characters, like the unforgiving Dursleys, and adoration towards the loving Weasleys. Some people even become so enchanted with the
Magic is a fake subject and people need to be aware of this before they overanalyze situations. Children being exposed to magic will understand more and have greater creativity skill. The symbol of magic can be represented in many different things and can relate to life. Its healthy for kids to get lost into ta fantasy land by being creative and figuring out the depths of their imagination. If a child didn’t imagine they wouldn’t be able to set goals and think of situations and imagine history. Children figure out that Santa and the Easter bunny aren’t real and soon enough will understand that Harry Potter isn’t real. Disney fairytales are all fake and people understand that is fantasy. It just all depends on how the child learns and how the children will interpret the fantasy life. Magic is an exciting and cool fantasy theme that is fun and people love to know more about it. When the brain is developing reading these stories can help creativity as well as their writing skills. The more children read as a child the greater writers and communication they have. Its beneficial to have kids read and fantasy will take children to new places they have ever been before. Harry Potter was a great book to reflect how magic is a great asset to a book. Harry Potter is an action packed book of curiosity of what will happen next and its book you want to keep reading until the very ends and then start reading the next book of the series. Children will benefit highly from reading magic in literature at young
In the early years of computers and computerized technology, computer engineers had to believe that their contribution to the development of computer technology would produce positive impacts on the people that would use it. During the infancy of computer technology, ethical issues concerning computer technology were almost nonexistent because computers back then were not as multifaceted as they are today. However, ethical issues relating to computer technology and cyber technology is undeniable in today’s society. Computer technology plays a crucial role in all aspects of our daily lives. In many cases, the security vulnerabilities in computer technology are exploited by cybercriminals to invade people’s privacy, and steal people’s identity. We know that computers have no moral compass; they cannot make moral decisions for themselves. Essentially, people make moral decisions that affect others positively or negatively depending on how they use computer technology. Some of the biggest ethical issues facing people in the computing environment include privacy concerns on the web and identity theft. Privacy concerns...

Why read literature? To many of us, such a question seems as strange as asking “why breathe?” as literature has been part of our life, family, school, and community for as long as we can remember. Of course, there are those who argue that what today’s students need is preparation for the “real world,” but in the push for practical preparedness we sometimes overlook the importance of educating students’ imaginations. Literature offers windows to worlds outside students’ experience as well as mirrors onto the world they already know. Literature also prepares students for the personal challenges and moral dilemmas they are likely to face. We interpret the world constantly in all our experiences every day, so interpreting literature provides a general model for interpretation. Exploring a literary text gives the opportunity to think about various reasons for actions, for how people act and think and react to others. Reading offers us the possibility to do this independently of our personal experiences. It concerns somebody else: fictive persons in a fictive world.
Science and Technology are not pursued to improve the moral values of man and as such will be perpetually in disagreement. Humanity will never cease to create new technologies and learn about the universe through scientific methods. A person's values on the other hand are not actively augmented and will suffer. Society is in need of a refreshing of ethics that stays on par with the development of man's other creations.
