To begin with, “The Last Supper” is the name of the composition that I will be critiquing. The Composition was created by Leonardo da Vinci in 1945. Da Vinci painted the art piece directly on a dining hall wall of a church in Milan, Italy. The subject matter of this composition is, it depicts Jesus having his last meal next his apostles before being crucified. From my point of view, this composition was created using oil and tempera. Next, the person in the middle (Jesus), is the center point of attention because the apostles that are right next to him are all turning towards him. No one in the composition appears to look happy, they all look worried and frightened. This composition contains implied lines, which are invisible lines that are drawn to show the apostles moving and looking towards Jesus. Also, positive and negative shapes are present in this composition. The apostles are right next to Jesus, some appear to be standing up and others appear to be sitting down. They are all in the same row which represents visual rhythm. The focal point is in the middle, a large window appears in the background and Jesus appears in front of that window, the composition is about Jesus, and when people look at this painting the first thing that they will look for is Jesus. Therefore Jesus is the emphasis. Da Vinci painted this composition smaller in scale, it is not actual size. From what I see, Da Vinci did not utilize light or bright colors in this composition to catch the viewers’
