For perseverance is constantly tested in trials and assessments in abundance of adversity, calamity and catastrophe. But it is through only a strong and adamant mentality can perseverance be of any use, as without motivation, perseverance is merely stillborn. But much like the water that slowly chips away at the stone, or the ice that gradually shatters the solid rock, perseverance is much the same, demolishing through the predicaments and headaches that life has in store and burning through the barriers of conflicting emotions. For whether you wear perseverance over your heart or on your arm, no matter who you are, perseverance is buried deeply within our core and is a unshifted behavior that enables even the most average of humans, to perform marvelous masterstrokes revolutionized in many aspects that will move even the most sturdiest of mountains and carve through the most impenetrable of
He emphasizes what he believes goes largely unnoticed, like Sissy’s unique ability to succeed in life, given her handicap. Yet, does not deny that living outside social rules is extremely difficult and
“Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts”
In any case of war, the will to continue on and live is essential for survival. The feeling of going on no matter what horrendous situation is called persevering. Giving up is never a good option, the chances of survival or accomplishing is almost to none. A real-life example is the legacy of Louis Zamperini, a famous Olympic miler who was taken as a Japanese POW which is written in author Laura Hillenbrand’s book Unbroken. Laura Hillenbrand’s Unbroken portrays the message of persevering in the direst situation is essential for survival.
The word perseverance has become a keyword in Christyne’s vocabulary. No matter the obstacle placed before her, Christyne demonstrates a calm and collective approach every time. In fact, becoming a part-time retail worker was not her first job of choice; however, Christyne makes it work and receives praise from loyal customers on a daily basis as a result of her hard-working attitude.
Many people show perseverance, including me. I showed perseverance when I failed a quiz and I knew to get my grade up I had to work harder and study more. I knew if my parents found out that I failed a quiz they would yell at me and would be disappointed on me for getting a bad grade on a quiz because I didn’t study. This factor contributes me to work harder, I learned that I need to work harder to succeed, like Salva, how he showed perseverance by looking for his family.
Many people encounter perseverance throughout their life in certain events. Buck from the Call of the Wild, is taken from a place like home to him and thrown into a harsh environment he is not used to. Similar to that, my mom was living a normal life when suddenly she had to stay strong for the family due to her brother near death from a tragic wreck. Even though they differ, both had to adapt to the life changing experiences and stay mentally strong.
The personal narratives of Mat Fraser and Eli Clare both describe their experiences, obtaining a disabled-body. While one describes themselves as a “freak,” and the other as a “supercrip,” they both touch on the subject of using their bodies to their advantage. Mat suffers from disfigured arms, making them small and his body shorter than average, known as thalidomide syndrome (thalidomide.ca), and considers himself a freak. And Eli, who suffers from cerebral palsy, causing him to have floppy limbs and involuntary motions (Mayo Clinic), is known to be the supercrip. Despite the fact that society has constructed to view their bodies as “deviant” or the “other,” Fraser and Clare discuss about their achievement and the journeys that has led them
In Lost Boy, Lost Girl, John demonstrates persevering because he persists through the war to head to safety. For instance, John perseveres by swimming across the Gilo River. The text states, “ ‘ I can’t help you’, I shouted at the big man. I kept struggling and swimming and kicking” (Dau 70). This shows that John perseveres because he is facing a challenge, but he is overcoming it to survive. He is struggling to swim across the Gilo River, but it is his only chance to flee from the ambush. Additionally, John perseveres by walking distances while facing starvation. The
If you do not go after what you want, then you will never get it. Perseverance is all about overcoming challenges, and never giving up on dreams, despite the hardships. The authors; Doug Farrar, " Shaquem Griffin, one handed LB, overcomes it all", Jon Bon Jovi, " Livin on a Prayer", and John Steinbeck, Grapes of Wrath all utilize the lives of people to tell the tales of perseverance. Farrar writes about the life of a non- fictional character, where as both, Bon Jovi, and Farrar tell the tales of a fictional characters life. All three authors claim that hope gives people the strength to perseverance, regardless of the challenges thrown their way.
The Merriam Webster Dictionary defines perseverance as the continued effort to do or achieve something despite difficulties, failure, or opposition. In today’s society, there are so many walls and barriers that prevent humans from achieving their dreams and goals and people begin giving up. However, great poets such as Homer and famous music groups such as Mumford and Sons have used the strife of humanity to compose works that can be used to inspire and institute hope for humanity. With perseverance, there are three key aspects, struggle, loyalty, and strength. The struggle is what allows humans to learn, grow, and better themselves, the loyalty demonstrated provides motivation for success, and the personal strength allows the person to build
While fulfilling their journey, a hero must undergo a psychological change that involves experiencing a transformation from immaturity into independence and sophistication. Campbell states that these events are what ultimately guides a hero into completing their journey by, “leaving one condition and finding the source of life to bring you forth into a richer more mature condition” (Moyers 1). She first enters her journey when she learns about invisible strength from her mother, “I was six when my mother taught me the art of invisible strength. It was strategy for winning arguments, respect from others, and eventually, though neither of us knew it at the time, chess games”(Tan 89).
No matter their size, obstacles can be overcome. When my father died, both my mother and I lost a very important person in our lives. Through my own process and through watching her process of overcoming her loss, I was able to learn that strength can always be found within and around oneself. Whether if the strength is found from diving deep within, or if it is found from leaning on someone nearby, strength can be found to overcome any obstacle.
sometimes when we try something new we always wanna give up , but that’s not always the right choice, instead of giving up, show persistence. Three texts that demonstrate perseverance are “Lost Boys,” “Saudi Arabia’s Freedom Riders”, and “Nick Vujicic: Life Without Limits.”
...be overcome with perseverance and hard work. Although costly, I believe that it can achieve significant prevention results with adolescents who are considered at highest risk because of multiple risk factors.
Firstly, Nick Vujicic has mental and physical strength. Imagine a situation of being born without limbs, no hands to experience touch, no legs to walk. Nick had a hard time when he was a child, and his life has filled with difficulties and hardships. When Nick attended school, he started to face a lot of problems. He began to be more lonely, rejected and bullied. That was because of his physical differences. Like most children , he was vulnerable in his pre-teen years and many kids hurt him when they asked him “why don’t you have arms and legs?” (Vujicic, 2010, p. 17). He decided to stay home to avoid negative comments from others. After a period of time, Nick became able to make relationships with other kids at school, by telling them about his physi...
