Despite of the great impact of it in the advancement of our country, globalization has been threatening our lives and the worst thing is that we, Filipinos, are not aware of this threat brought by the phenomenon. The widening of the gap between the rich and poor people, a result of globalization, puts the Philippines deeper in the quicksand of poverty and also causes social injustices among men. The deprivation of jobs and resources from its own citizens causes the people to die unattended. Recognition plays an important role to humanity since it is through recognition that we can form our sense of who we are and to determine the value accorded to us as individuals. The term ‘love’ in Honneth’s theory refers to the physical needs and emotions which are being met by other. This also takes the form of our primary relationships such as close friendship, parent-children relationship, lovers relationship. The term ‘respect’ refers to the development of moral responsibility which has been developed through our moral relations to others. This is where individuals learn that we are all bearers of equal rights. The third mode of recognition which is ‘solidarity’ is related to the recognition of individual traits and abilities where we gain our self-esteem. According to Honneth, the denial of the three modes results to social injustice. In the present situation of the Philippines, we can see the denial of the three mode and to site one- the killing of Lumads in the southern part of the country. We fail to recognize our symbiotic relation. We fail to recognize each other’s human rights. We fail to recognize the individual traits and abilities of each other.
