Murder Victims In our communities there are often times when families not only have to undergo the pain that comes with the passing of a family member, but not being able to identify their loved one as well is another struggle they have to overcome at times. Over the years there have been several of occasions where crime scene investigators have been tasked with identifying a deceased individual, while some people wonder what the point of it is and others arguing that it is important for a family. A crime scene investigator is the individual who arrives at a crime scene and not only searches and preserves evidence located on the crime scene, but also sends off evidence that may assist in determining the identity of victims and murders to the appropriate personnel. This individual implements several of methods in order to gather the appropriate evidence. Some of the ways that they gather the evidence is by lifting fingerprints, gathering blood, gathering saliva, gathering any hand written documents, taking photos of tattoos, gathering teeth, gathering hair and so much more. These individuals truly play a huge role in the discovery of the individual’s identity. Handwritten notes can be found in places like an individual’s pocket or even in open places like a coffee table. These things can be examined not by just simply looking at them, but rather focusing on their style characteristics and personal characteristics (Fisher, 2012). The difference between the two is that personal characteristics are any changes that are made to style characteristics intentionally and unintentionally. The one that may help investigators determine the identity is personal characteristics. For instance, say an individual puts hearts at the end or beginning of their letters. This could be used to help narrow down the people that it may be, simply because it’s something that not everyone does. The only downside is that the murder may know this is as well and tamper with this in an attempt to throw investigators off track.
Another method of determining an identity of a deceased individual is by looking at their bones. Pathologist is the person who would be called upon regarding the inspection of a body of bones that is located. This individual is capable of providing data to investigators like apparent age, height, build, weight, and scars that the individual may have
