The nineteenth and twentieth centuries were a time of great technological advances. An example of this was in the 1830’s when the first “reaping machine” was created. This was followed in the 1850’s by the first oil well, this was then used in the United States. The Wright Brothers were not far behind, they made the first ever gas powered and manned airplane to fly by the early 1900’s. One of the less well known achievements was in the 1920’s when the first ever 3D movie was made. The conclusion of all this is from the mid to late nineteenth century there was a mass of technological advances being made. Which in turn affected the majority of the world’s leading nations of the time.The Great Depression was a major economic crisis that hit the United States in 1929 when the Stock Market crashed, sending millions of Americans into poverty almost overnight. The years following the crash, “consumer spending and investment dropped”(History.com Staff). Unemployment skyrocketed, and people and families were left without jobs or money to provide for their kids and themselves. The United States was not the only nation facing hardships; however, in Germany, a party was coming to power this party would later become known as the Nazi’s. The Nazi’s party was a socialist group who’s main focus was “German Pride and anti-Semitism.” (History.com Staff). The three biggest advances during this time were the jet engine, nuclear Fission, the desk phone. The jet engine was first used during WWII in what was called the W1 engine in “The Pioneer”. In today’s world it’s used every hour of the day in flights from just state to state, or to travel to other countries. However, the desk phone, was most likely the best invention of the time. It was used in offices all over the world and is still being used in offices today. This also includes landlines. The most important of the three inventions from desk phone, to the jet engine,to nuclear fission, was nuclear fission; which was the invention that helped to end WWII. Most commonly remembered for its use in the Atomic Bomb. The U.S. secretly worked on the bomb which they called “The Manhattan Project” which spanned over the course of 6 years (1939-1945). This project actually involved Albert Einstein, who was the main scientist on the project. Along with 120,000 workers secretly working for the U.S government. More than $2 billion dollars went toward the project. There is no doubt this decade was one of the most impactful decades in technology
