I awoke late into the next morning and dressed myself for a visit to Gatsby’s house. I assumed it had been a long night for him, but determined he would be awake by now. I made short time of the walk, deftly moving through his drive and to his front door. I gave the door a jaunty knock to elicit a response from one of the inhabitants. A vague contour approached the door and one of Gatsby’s new servants greeted me. I inquired to Gatsby’s whereabouts and was informed that he had gone to East Egg as soon as he awoke. I decided to call for a taxi and head to Tom Buchanan’s residence. I arrived to the sounds of faint arguments originating from the backyard. Maybe then she’ll stand up to that absolute buffoon, Tom.” “I’m not sure she’ll listen to me-” “Nonsense, old sport. Try your best, that’s all I ask.” And with that, Gatsby gave an exultant stride to my front door, and disappeared into the darkness, like a sugar cube into hot tea. I planned to visit Daisy the following day, but when I reached the Buchanan residence in the morning the only people home to greet me were the butlers. The butler that answered gave me short remarks. Tom and Daisy had departed for Chicago in the middle of the night. I thanked the man and headed back to West Egg, there was nothing left for me here. I marched to the palace I lived next to, and up to the front door. One of Wolfsheim's men informed me that Gatsby was upstairs on a call so I requested to meet with him after. He gave me a quick look up and down and nodded. I waited on one of the many ritzy settees while he finished with his work call. No more than five minutes later Gatsby came down to greet me, but I was a little frightened of how he might react, and admittedly was perturbed in my seat. He appeared laden as his brain shifted gears, and he dismissed me without so much as a goodbye. When I looked out to the neighboring mansion that night, it was dark and gloomy. I wondered if they would even start again. It had been a few weeks since I had any contact with Gatsby. His house remained silent to the nights since Daisy left and it was doubtful it would ever liven up. Daisy had posted me a letter so I knew she arrived safely. She apologized for the quick going, saying Tom had not informed her of his plan. I understood, Tom wanted to get Daisy away from Gatsby, he did not want to jeopardize his marriage so Daisy could go run off with a bootlegger. I made plans to move back to the Midwest, New York was too much for me. It had been quite the experience but I was ready to move on. There was nothing left for me here. I planned to pay a visit to Jordan before I left but I never found the time. She was always busy with her career, developing her name in the golfing
