The importance of having gym classes which students are required to take is that they can teach them valuable lessons and tricks to living long healthy lives and putting their other classes to good use longer. The importance of schools not cutting budgets through the physical education classes is important because having one teacher for a class of 50+ students wouldn’t be as informative for the students. The student to teacher ratio for classes are seen as an important thing for most school districts, at the same time budget cuts can remove teachers from other parts of the school such as physical education. The importance of physical education for students should be mandatory for them, since “Schools have been identified as providing an ideal environment for the promotion of health-enhancing behaviors” and “they have to be integrated into the school curriculum and include amongst others healthy eating, physical activity, and body image as well as support for teachers and parents” (Kobel, Wirt, Scheiber, Kesztyus, Kettner, Erkelenz).
