One of the major reasons why U.S. diets are often insufficient even though we live in an affluent country is because fast food companies are paying a lot of money in advertising to keep their business successful. A prime example is when parents reward their children for doing well in school by taking them to McDonald’s or Burger King. Children are growing up eating unhealthily and they continue to as they grow up. When have you ever heard a parent tell their child that they are going to get a salad for doing well in school? Kids are seeing McDonald’s advertising and it is contributing to our obesity rate as a nation. In the article, “75 Percent of Americans Say They Eat Healthy – Despite Evidence to The Contrary” by Allison Aubrey and Maria Godoy, they mention that industries spend billions of dollars marketing junk food and sugary drinks and that celebrity endorsements have also been shown to play a role in influencing bad eating habits. Even though there advertising for healthy eating and food with the proper nutrition there just isn’t enough effort to overcome the junk food industries. 2. This commercial was advertising the movie by showing scenes of the movies and the way they were trying to hook children to want to come to McDonald's was by stating they would give them a toy Troll with every purchase of a Happy Meal. This type of advertising focuses on having kids to come want to eat at their restaurant because they will receive a toy. One thing I found interesting was that McDonald's tried to advertise a healthy food product by placing apple slices next to French fries and chicken nuggets. McDonald's is trying to support healthy eating habits by adding apples in their ads, but kids are still focused on eating the greaser
